2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I know it's sounds like an excuse (AOB)! Haha But we really did have another shocking year with injuries. Didn't help with key players / positions out for alot of the year. It will go a long way if we can keep a healthy squad on the park.
Didn’t seem to help us at the end of the year. That’s when it suddenly became the off-season’s fault.

but that is the issue, we get injuries every year but unlike other clubs we don't plan for or have depth to cover these injuries.

thats one of the things we need to address, whether thats setting up proper pathways for our juniors to come through, which will take a few years or offloading players on too much money to get new players in as depth, which would explain the Klemmer being shopped around situation

Pezet looks like he'll have a similar skillset to Mitch Moses if he keeps developing, but like Moses, he's a skinny guy who will have to work hard to be strong enough to compete with men.
I can't see him being ready for firstgrade next year. Maybe the year after.
Sam Walker was a skinny kid when he started in first grade. A good offseason for Pezet would help get him ready.

There isn't a better option for us at the moment in my opinion and surely Pezet won't want to sit in reserve grade for 4 or 5 more years

Pezet isn't coming here. His old man will ensure that. Plus, I can picture Storm moving on from Paps and placing Munster at 1, with Hughes/Pezet at 6/7. Not immediately, but once Pezet is ready. Paps is too injury prone.

you may be right on both counts but i'd still try to get him back as he would be better than Brooks if we do actually get him or any of the other halves we currently have

What happened with his old man anyway, i don't remember? was it something O'Brien or Gardner did? Is it something that Parr may be able to smooth over if we did go after him

Pezet is 18 now and would be making his own decisions, and he has a lot of lifelong mates in our Flegg side this year.
The guy virtually grew up with Knights headquarters as his playground and all the staff and players as his family.
I think he is in Melbourne's longterm plans and will stick with them, but if he didn't see a future at Melbourne, I think he'd be very happy to re-join his mates at the Knights.

I reckon they will keep pap long term. Could see them letting Hughes go and finding a new 7. Don't think it will be pezet. Reckon he will chase $$$ somewhere else by then.

Just watched 2022 Rd12 Knights v Warriors 30 mins highlights, we won.
Clifford played 7 and was good, laid on try for Frizell with nice kick, tackled well and kicked 4/4, was very involved.
If he could play to that standard each week he would be an asset and worth keeping. Unfortunately his good games were infrequent for reasons still not quite clear

Someone was saying on facebook that the NRL will not allow him to take the medication he needs to feel normal. I hope this is not correct.

McDougall played for years on prescribed steroids.
Willie mason played for years on prescribed amphetamines for ADD.

You get the right doctor to sign the script and you could play on LSD.

Insulin is technically a performance-enhancing banned substance as well but they're not gonna make diabetics play without it - absolutely no chance the NRL or WADA ever prohibits a player from taking something that is medically required.

Tom and Jake Trbojevoc we should go and talk to these 2 and see if we can sign them as they are not happy at Manly and Manly are re-evaluating there time at Manly ...
I know he's had a few injuries but Tom is a game changer of the highest order i'm not one who wants Ponga to go to 6 but if we could get Tom then Ponga to 6 it is .
