2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I know it’s not about us but As surprised I am by Munsters decision to stay I reckon he’s been given the nodd that his origin coach this year Billy slater will take over from Bellamy.

It’s not relevant to us in the sense he was ever gonna sign for us - I never thought we had a chance - but it is in the sense that this is the single biggest domino to fall in the player market. Likely affects the forward planning of a number of clubs in terms of what they’re gonna do after November 1. I daresay we’ll get a clearer picture of where these clubs are going in the coming weeks and we’ll finally get a proper idea of whether the Knights are in fact going to manage to sign an experienced halfback.

I've written about this before but I reckon Klemmer is overpaid and there are far better value middle forwards on the market (Leniu, Eddie blacker, Emre guler would probably split klems 800k between them). Even Luke Thompson if dogs would pay some freight.

I'd throw 400k each and a starting position at pezet and trindall. Neither will ever get an opportunity at their respective clubs. Price in the 14 fighting for a spot.

Re: frizz I reckon it's worth hanging onto him for the time being. Young guys like KPP coming through that need mentoring. We've lost Barnett.

I don't think Brooks on 750k is the answer.

Munster resigning with Melbourne, makes me envious of that side. They have stars all over the park. Are they all playing for unders? You got the best 6, close to the best 7, arguably the best 9, one of the top fullbacks, one of the best centers, and quality forwards.

Comparing to the knights makes me frustrated and depressed. We are trying to scratch for a 7 that hasn't even played finals football.

You can thank the NRL for destroying rugby league. Footballers are a dying breed, it’s all big, athletic, fast. Blow out high scoring games.

Their forwards are all leaving next year, and the guys after them are as ordinary as they come, they are going to really struggle to match teams in the middle next year imo.

To be fair, they've only lost 3 x forwards and have already replaced all three (sims, katoa & chan).
However, as history would undoubtedly prove, you'd have to be very, very, very brave to bet against bellyache not having them at least competitive; right across the park!

We have to be realistic about who we can get to come here, players like Munster will not come here.

If we don’t sign Brooks, who are we going to sign? We just have to hope we can get him playing well If we do sign him.

Bromwich Bros and Kaufusi are all past their best before dates, Kenny is still okay but the other two offer next to nothing .

Dolphins got sold up the river by letting the Storm offload them and clear space for Munster.

Seems the storm don't place as much as emphasis on forwards compared to there spine players. They seem to develope forwards into good players. Look at King. They have a simple job and plan to stick too, and there gun spine runs the show. I agree Kenny Bromich is a loss, with his creativity on the edge.

Newcastle seem to have invested the other way with forwards. On the attacking line the forwards get the ball to much. We have these "settlers" play to often.

I hope if we sign Brooks he can make a change. He needs to be a leader.

Make that 4 replacements now. As much as it pains me to say, Melbourne do this so very well.
Losing 3 ageing forwards but gaining 4 (mostly younger & guaranteed cheaper versions) more all well before pre-season.
Pity AOB didn't learn this one whilst he was down there...

Melbourne have Dan Ticehurst in one of their feeder clubs.
If he gets a proper firstgrade pre-season, which we never gave him, he has the potential to make massive gains.
If his fitness improves as much as Nelson's did with a Melbourne pre-season he could be sensational. He's a big, hard running guy - just needs firstgrade level fitness.

I won't be writing Melbourne off next year even with the Bromwich brothers, Cheese and Kaufisi gone. Bellamy will find a way to develop the new guys in the forward pack they have to become a premiership threat again.
