2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Not much happening with the Knights, what are we supposed to get excited we might sign brooks and get rid of Klem? 😞
I suppose at least things appear to be happening at other clubs. We've been very quiet for a while.
Hopefully we receive some (positive) news soon regarding at least a new 1/2 back rather than the (negative) news that we may be potentially losing one of our best forwards.
I get that they want to free up money, but last time this happened we freed up significant money yet didn't spend that on fixing our issue (no experienced halfback).
It just feels a tad déjà vu or groundhog dayish; hope like hell I'm wrong!

Peter Parr is clearly working on a lot of things for next year.
I suspect we are going to get a ****load of news dropped in one big go.
I don't think Parr has said a word about his plans, or about anything, since his busy first few weeks.
You can bet he's been hiring, firing and conspiring for all he's worth, and someday soon he'll tell us about it.

We can only hope..... however I won't be surprised whatsoever if we sign nobody and go into next season with the same squad minus Klem...that's how much of a basket case we are at the moment.

What makes you say that Billy? I'm getting the impression there's not much going on at all. He may be trying, but who wants to come to the Knights?

As the old saying goes, empty vessels make the most noise.
If Parr were just some public relations type who was here to talk big to keep his job relevant, he'd be talking up every little thing right now.
The fact that he is saying nothing tells me that he is not just a big talker, but someone who has actual plans to fix what he can.
In short, the fact that we are not getting the usual PR barrage about 'the best pre-season ever" and we haven't even heard basics like who is the new head trainer and assistant coach or if players like Crossland have been signed, tells me they are sitting on news and making some changes.

I suspect things will start happening after Nov 1.. there's probably a lot of wait and see happening on who is resigned before the cut off, Munster was a big one and there were probably a few clubs in talks with him and had pipe dreams of getting him.

Pezet looks like he'll have a similar skillset to Mitch Moses if he keeps developing, but like Moses, he's a skinny guy who will have to work hard to be strong enough to compete with men.
I can't see him being ready for firstgrade next year. Maybe the year after.

Article about Klemmer.
Makes the point that he is not allowed to talk to other clubs till Nov 1, unless the club approve him doing it.
Implies that him touring Wests last week could only happen with Knights approval, and says him, Brooks and O'Brien all have the same manager.

Not sure why people getting upset about potential of Klemmer leaving, game has clearly gone past him. Heard the other night panthers rate 15th in post contact metres and find quick up tempo football far more efficient. Klemmer loves PCMs and hence really slow play the ball stifling our attack. Nothing against Klemmer just way too much money for what he brings

That's a really interesting point about the Panthers. Quick play the balls seem to be the key in the game ATM. The Rabbitos get heaps of momentum from Cameron Murry. Isn't D-saf renowned for a quick play the ball?

It was reported that J Saf was picked for NSW because of his quick play the balls.

They both do. There were three major issues causing them not to do so this year.
1. they were out of form most of the year.
2. our team played atrociously and was on the back foot as a general rule most games
3. we played with one of the worst 9's in the comp most of the year who could not bring them onto the ball in gaps/half gaps.

If I'm looking for positives in letting Klemmer go, Dan will hopefully come right back into prime form again, just purely based on he'll get more time with the ball in hand without having Klemmer always calling for it. Could turn into a masterstroke or a disaster. An injury makes it null and void though.

I was re-watching a few games. The ones with Clifford and Brailey playing at the start and end of the year. Haven't given up hope on Clifford yet. Sort of keen to see him end up with a running 5/8 I.e. ponga Pryce etc for a year and really have to run the show.

I know it's sounds like an excuse (AOB)! Haha But we really did have another shocking year with injuries. Didn't help with key players / positions out for alot of the year. It will go a long way if we can keep a healthy squad on the park.

It's clear watching the Panthers play they hit the deck and play the ball quick, PCM isn't their priority.
