2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Freely admit I’ll be pretty disappointed in him if he leaves. Even for a premiership team. I truly think it’s a bit of a dirt move to leave a club after one good season.

Repay the club with 2-3 more years with a squad that is building, if no good then, sign a bigger contract after that period. But not after one season. I’ll be externally pissed at him for doing that.

Usually I’m pretty soft on people leaving, but most of those players have put the time in over poor seasons.

Yeah on one level, look, he owes us nothing. He signed a 3 year deal. He’s entitled to sign wherever he likes after that.

But my understanding was that over in England his career was at a bit of a crossroads - he’d rejected offers from Australia to stay in England, but he wasn’t going to make the Huddersfield first team for various reasons (someone from England posted on here expressing confusion that an Australian club wanted him). We actually took a punt on him and it paid off for once. For once we did everything right - we found this guy, we developed him.

While teams in Australia were fighting over Suaalii, we found a similar level of prospect, a guy who could potentially be a match winner for us for a decade+. It’d be a kick in the guts if he left. He doesn’t owe us anything, but if this isn’t a guy who by now feels a sense of connection and love with our club, who ever will?

It’d be particularly galling if he does go to the Roosters, on “less money” than he’d get from us. At that point it’s throw your hands up, what can you even do? Politis just gets whoever he wants based on promises of lost bets on holes of golf and a lucrative job for life after retirement.

If it’s Dolphins or Titans, it’s probably cos he’s being offered $700K+ per season. It would be easier to take at least…

His manager has done a good job.
The article in the Herald says he was meeting with the Knights over the weekend and, reading between the lines, his manager will have a base line offer to put to the Knights, based on what his "market value" is.
I suspect Dom doesn't want to go, but the game is, he is prepared to go if we don't come up with a fair price.
Just business.
Nothing personal.

The point that Harvey made hits the hardest. We were bold enough to look outside the box and take punt on him. It’s worked out. Really well. It will be truly baffling if he leaves to any club with KPP and Pryce coming as well. Truly baffling.

Agree , I'm sure he played a fair part in their recruitment , talking up the club & the town Pretty poor form if he is gone before they get here !

I think he is doing the right thing giving the Knights the final shot with news that his manager was here over the weekend. We either see value in him at that figure, or we don't.

Anywhere he goes there’s a built-in friend group of 30+ young blokes on good money with similar experiences who he’ll be spending most of his time with. NRL players don’t have trouble making friends. The idea that he’d base a career move off friendship is so naive, especially when you remember he just moved halfway across the world away from his family and friends to get here.

Yeah my thoughts are he has got a better offer and are looking for the knights to match. As others have said we are the only club who can offer him extra for this year so should have a advantage. Surely the club has thought of this. Still poor form if he leaves.

Not saying I would blame him , prob still live on the beach , more money ? plenty of girls , similar lifestyle .Really don't think he owes us , but does seem poor form if he leaves .But good luck to him!

Grass isn't always greener , wouldn't say Watsons move to the chooks has been a success ?
You are right, grass isn't always greener......BUT Roosters are in a much better position than us for success and are consistently a top team.

Yes it will come down to his personal choice, good luck to the kid either way. Has the world at his feet !
