2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

First trial done. The guys who we know will be first choice first graders looked good. The guys making up the numbers in the top 30 struggled, particularly the forwards. That’s the way this roster has been for a while and it will take time to fix.

One more experienced forward is absolutely essential before the season starts, even one injury to the first choice guys is a big worry at the moment.

I note that Nathan Brown is still at Parra and there’s talk about them being okay with letting him leave. I reckon there’s a good chance the Knights are at least thinking about it. He’s not as versatile as Elliott, but having the option to start him at lock and move Adam to an edge if Fitz/Friz gets injured would help the squad balance.

I honestly can’t guess who else the Knights could possibly be targeting. Has anyone heard anything?

All Baz has said is hey hope one out of the two they are going for will be signed before season starts. Desperately need something to keep the likes of Jones in CUP.

Must have missed something with Brodie Jones’ performance in the first trial last weekend. His defence was very good if you look at the game again. He certainly didn’t set the world on fire in attack, but at least some of his defence was dominant.

BJ was the player that missed the one on one close to the line leading to a try (front rower, name escapes me right now), and wasnt his only "bad" miss. I thought jack on the other hand had some classy touches with offloads and bending the line, and unless i misses something his defense was great.
Last year i would have said both were not first grade material, but looks to me like Jack has made considerable improvements.

I thought jack last couple of games before he got injured last year started to show a bit of potential hopefully he finds his feet cause I think with his ball playing skill could add something to the side if called upon but I could see a bench of mann John's Hetherington and Croker think that would be not bad bench

I’m on board with this. If JJohns is encouraged to keep the second phase play going I’m happy. His defence was solid and he’s keen to back his man up in cover tackles. Hope he plays well in this game.

All through the grades at the Knights and at Souths Jack Johns has looked like he's really getting there - just before he gets injured and tries to play on one leg.

We NEED at least 1 more prop ASAP, D Saf, J Saf Hetherington, Croker and Thompson aint gonna be enough to get us through a season. Shoes this weekend with only Thompson as a prop on the bench, with both Hetherington and Croker out

I was really hoping Toleafoa would’ve stepped up and maybe filled that blank but when he came on but he looked hesitant to get involved I was abit disappointed but certainly not writing him off completely either.

Hope i am wrong but i had a feeling he was gone after he scored his first try it was weird everyone was celebrating and he had a look on his face like he was guilty or something didnt seem overly happy maybe he has not decided yet.

He hurt his shoulder when he hit the ground. It wasn't some secret body language pointing to him leaving lmao.

Edit: Realized you're probably talking about his actual try that was counted, my bad.
