2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Cobbo could be sacked over his comments about Walters.
I wonder what he would say about AOB if we signed him 😂
Just saw the video where he says that. He sounds like a very young, naive small town guy. I love how we're seeing more honest conversations now in the new media wave of internet and podcasting, but it's hard to imagine the Broncos don't come down hard on him for this.

An article on Dom Young saying the are preparing to make a 400K offer to resign him.

He’s worth that and some. Think of the confidence he got from the WC. I saw something on YouTube. He is was clocked as the second fastest player in the NRL behind Adocar.

I wouldn't mind Gagai playing fullback as it allows Mapapalangi to play centre and Gagai cannot defend in the centres at all so would eliminate that weakness from the team. After all it won't be a long term solution and hopefully Pryce claims the fullback position next season.

Yeah and i reckon young would have him covered over 100m.

Roger Fabri the renowned speed coach who has trained both Saab and JAC reckons Saab has got JAC covered over the 100m easily.
It would be interesting footrace between Saab and Young though.

Do we think he will sign for 400k a year with Newcastle? You’d want to sign him on a 3 year deal. Might not be quite enough. I think his Pomy team mates coming in 24 should be a factor in our favour.

$400k sounds like it would be a bargain to me, tbh. I think he'll get more than that elsewhere if he wants.

Well if say the Dolphins offered 500k for him for 2024 & 2025 he'd earn 150? In 2023 with us, that's 1.15m over 3 years.

With us he could get 400k starting next year so that's 1.2m over 3 years. I doubt he'd get offered more than 500.

If he leaves I'd say it would be for success and not $.

If you had every player in the NRL do a 100m race, Saab would win comfortably IMO. He’s barely ever gotten out of third gear in actual games. Insanely fast.

He just doesn’t have a lot else going for him besides his height.

Why doesn't the NRL put on another cross-code 100m race? The last one was so sick, I still occasionally watch it on YouTube. The only reason I can think they don't is because they get push back from the clubs about potential injury? Or maybe they don't want the fans knowing who is actually the fastest, as it will remove the mystery and excitement of the hype around having 'fast' players

The NRL has some pretty quick players atm, notable sprinters.

Newcastle’s million-dollar man Kalyn Ponga is set to return to five-eighth as Olympic Sevens convert Lachlan Miller inches closer to a move up the F1 from Cronulla to play fullback.

That's all I can read without an account.

The SMH is weird, sometimes I can read them, sometimes I can't.

I have a subscription to the SMH.

Negotiations have continued and Cronulla’s stance on Miller has softened as with the prospect of a 3 year deal being offered by the Knights if he is released from the last year of his contract. A deal could be finalised as early as next week provided the Sharks can sign a replacement player.

The article says a decision was to move Ponga to 5/8 after he was ruled out for the season last year with concussion. He has been training a 6 all summer. Ponga will will play at 5/8 even if a fullback can be signed from outside the club.

Kalyn may play 5/8 for the Māori side in the All Stars game.
