2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

On one of the podcasts.. Watson mentioned he was heading to the Super League until he had chat with Trent Robinson.
That's true. Honestly not sure why Watson was considering it, other than to live in England for a while and experience life there.

he was considering it because hes an average nrl player at best, nothing more than a utility but cant even be the best at that spot. Hes not terrible but defintely never gonna get big money

Back up?? The way the man has kicked on him and D Saf would of been 8 & 10
I've kept a close eye on King. He's no less unimpressive at the Storm than he was here in his last year. He is a bog average FGr who gets by in the Storm outfit because he's surrounded by competent professionals.

Legit saw him make defensive errors on the line that cost them tries last year that no other player would get away with. He must do everything so well off the field.

Knights were playing hard ball with King which is why he looked at other options, not AOB related
In a Telegraph story earlier last year, King said how much easier Craig Bellamy had made his game: 2 or 3 simple roles he had to perform on game day. King reported loving his football again when asked why his football had improved so much since joining the Storm.
Rugby league is a simple game made complicated by some coaches.

King started off the season on fire but as time went on the role they expected him of him became abit much especially with all their injuries.

Watson injured at training. Patella tendon injury which could be 2 months best case scenario, or season ending worst case.

Not disagreeing, but that’s not the reason he left in the first place

Connor Watson also said the same on the hello sport podcast when they were needling him to say something negative about AOB. Said he gave him a role and told him how important he was to the team. He also said when the Knights original offer was below what he wanted “Phil said he was happy for me to go to the market”. Nothing groundbreaking but interesting perspective from Connor.

He probably told him to go to the market because he knew he wasnt worth what he was asking, which proved right in the end considering he went to Roosters for the original price we offered

Agree he is an average first grader thrown into a very good side. Will be interesting to see how he goes with no Bromwich brothers or Kaufusi to lean on. Bellamy has said he liked the way King trained so hard last pre season camp, but I didn’t see much improvement in his game last year. His defence is still below par , and he is no threat with the ball. Good luck to him though.

No threat with the ball? Is any front rower?? all they do is run hard and straight and unless they are Taumalolo they rarely look like breaking the line, he also had a 90+% tackle efficiency so most of everyone's arguments are going off the naked eye rather than the facts. But hey people do say that you get remembered for your mistakes and not for your achievements. If Craig Bellamy can fit the bloke into the run on 13 then that's enough for me to think that we ****ed up losing him

****ed up losing him? Have you seen how many average players Melbourne have signed over the years to play a bit part role in their team? It's part of what they do, have a core of superstar players and surround them with run of the mill guys who just do a job. When your culture is that great, any player that is willing to work hard is going to succeed there. Here he was just another mediocre player to go along with the rest of them.
