2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

So the Tigers can sign the below and look to have money for Moses and knights don't have salary cap??

John Bateman
Adam Doueihi
Luke Brooks
Nathan Brown
Isaiah Papali'i
Api Koroisau
Charlie Staines
David Klemmer

Surely knights have enough to go get a marquee full back like RTS

Adam Doueihi is off contract after 2023
Luke Brooks is off contract after 2023
Daine Laurie is off contract after 2023
Charlie Staines is off contract after 2023

Nathan Brown will be on pennys, been on the outer at Eels for quite some time. John Bateman (hasn't even been rumoured to signed just been talks) is only to be rumoured if they cant secure Moses, I recommend reading more of these articles whens SMH or other sources release them. They will pay a big price to have them all and quite frankly, Klemmer and Brown are past their use by dates, Staines is rubbish hence the reason penrith wanted Peachey (who sucks) in return (that shows his value). Brooks will re-sign for sweet **** all (probably 400-500k due to not delivering ever) And if they don't have any clear improvement this year early I doubt they'll keep Doueihi.

Nathan Brown is owed $500K by Parra next year though and they won’t kick in most of it just to clear roster space. I would imagine the Tigers would be up for at least $350K of that and likely more to secure him for next year.

Klem just signed with Tigers after us...

Pearce came here for $

KP said to his dad "I don't want to play for Newcastle they lose all the time"

Tyson came here

Look how many big names the bulldogs signed!
None of these players were at Manu’s level, he’s a genuine superstar of the game.

I find it kind of interesting - when Latrell and Joey were both at the Roosters, you had two players for whom playing centre is an absolute doddle, both ludicrously over-qualified to play there. Both of them you’d hardly notice half the time because their team was so stacked they didn’t have to try.

Latrell wanted a bigger challenge and went to Souths - for less money - to play fullback, and now cops way more criticism than he ever did before, because the position is so much more important and quiet games aren’t really an option anymore if you want praise and credit. Everything he does wrong is dissected in a way it barely was before.

Joey decided - hey actually this thing where you sleepwalk through half the regular season but basically everyone agrees you’re a superstar and might be the best fullback in the NRL without you even having to prove it? It’s pretty cool to be honest. Can’t say I blame him but I find it interesting which one cops it more from the peanut gallery.

I think the biggest difference between those 2 is Joey goes looking for the ball and latrell doesn't both great players but definitely think Joey has him beat

Manu averaged 140 metres per match at centre in 2022, and Mitchell averaged 101 from fullback, so I think it’s pretty unfair to say Manu sleepwalks through seasons. He’s loyal to his club and would be one of the most involved centres in the game. Nothing wrong with being a great centre, I don’t think?

Sorry I’ve been mentally working on this “Joey Manu: Cat” agenda for days and I shan’t be dissuaded now.

Ooh look at me I’m Joey Manu, I’m definitely really making $700K a year. All those bets I made with Uncle Nick on the golf course where I won $50,000 from him were real wagers. Ooh look I’m gonna pretend I’m injured and then run through and score when defenders stop in concern. Cat.

He’s a cool cat with a golden boot.

Im hoping our lack of looking for a middle is us having faith in Thompson, talty , toleafoa and potentially Tupouniua to fill that void.
That's not a good thing to hope for.. All those guys are reserve grade age and haven't debuted (excluding Leo), so either late bloomers or not good enough. We can't be relying on that entirely, need to bring in someone cheap that we know is up to the level.

Suggested it twice hasn’t been well received in these parts.

I think he’s the best of the “it’s 2.50am, bar closes at 3 and you still haven’t picked up” options. But yeah with the player movement going on we may do better.

His reputation has probably dipped below where it should be now because he was making so much money last year and he’s lost the power which made him worth all that, but he still keeps trying to play like he’s the same guy (eg throwing offloads which used to be on but which aren’t now). You’d need to try to get that out of his game. But on the positive side he’s still really mobile for a middle forward and solid defensively.
