2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I wonder if Dom Young doesn’t resign that well look to do another player swap. Don’t mind the Marzhew signing but would’ve rathered a centre so we could push Gagai to the wing.
We have Best and Mapapalangai for centre as well as Gagai.

2 - Marshew
3 - Best
4 - Gagai
5 - Young

I'd like Mapaplangai in the centres but that would mean no Best in my opinion. I guess Best will be injured by round 3 so it won't be an issue. Poor bloke is made of glass

After Gagai had his facial fracture he was a huge liability last season. We’ll see what happens next year but right centre is the most targeted (with almost every team being left side dominant) position on the field and would like to see us better stocked there.

After playing 17 matches last year this is marzhews tackles (62) and missed tackles (22) which he will no doubt have to improve on but he’s got a preseason to put in that work.

Everyone has been quick to point out his missed tackles but it was in one of the worst defensive sides and largely also defending outside of kelly or rookie fafita but lets look at Tuilagi who had a breakout year in a breakout side and also had tackle success rate of also 74% and he made the Aus world cup squad. Fox also 75% for the year. Wingers are left high and dry majority of the time by the ctrs reads and need to make a 1v1 tackle. Yes he can improve but lets look at the potential upside of that lwft edge with ponga and 2 ball running beasts in best and marzhew on that edge. Defenders will be ****ting it. I personally am backing fitz to have a belter year running his good lines again inside these 2, as defences slide out in fear.

I didn’t damn him I said it needs work and those players played 8 and 6 more games respectively. I hope he does well just pointing out a clear area to improve.

Parr talks about Dummy half stocks.

Says they were reluctant to release Randall, but picking up Marzhew made it easier.

Says we have Brailey, Crossland, Mann, Kalepo and Riley Jones is a long term option. He doesn't mention Kobe Rugless, so I suppose he's a lock now, which is where he mostly played in Flegg after the first month or so.

Parr also says Marzhew adds "a point of difference" and made the average most tackle busts of any winger in 2022 and was only behind Tedesco for all players.

If you exclude the one game where he played 4 minutes off the bench he outright lead the comp for tackle breaks per game and was in the top 5 wingers for both run metres per game and post contact metres per game. The attacking potential is undeniable. The issue is the other 50% of the game.

So the Tigers can sign the below and look to have money for Moses and knights don't have salary cap??

John Bateman
Adam Doueihi
Luke Brooks
Nathan Brown
Isaiah Papali'i
Api Koroisau
Charlie Staines
David Klemmer

Surely knights have enough to go get a marquee full back like RTS

Would Herbie be chasing too much cash to have a look at?

If he’s as good at fullback as he is at centre, no. He can’t ever get a run at FB for the Broncos though so I’m assuming he isn’t. I don’t get what the issue is because he’s got a big motor and high work rate and you’d think it’d translate, but there must be something.

Only other scenario I can see is they’re trying to do some 10 dimensional chess about keeping their elite centre on centre money and betting they’d get Walsh back all along… but really if Herbie was this great fullback prospect, I think he would have gotten a go there.
