I thought the same.
He also mentioned a young player they’d just signed who didn’t have an agent, so his mum handled negotiations on his behalf. He noted that she was already very familiar with the process because the player’s older brother is an NRL player with an agent. It sounded like he was referring to the McEwens.
It was a great interview and gave some genuine insight into how things are being run. You can see why he chooses to work with certain people, especially those he mentioned by name and has built long-standing relationships with over the years.
Hopefully they can lock POS up for the long term. I also loved hearing him talk about the cultural shift and the change in attitudes from 2025 to 2026. It’s been a long drought for us, but things finally seem to be heading in the right direction. Things are definitely looking up for us ⚔️.

Clearly Holbrook’s had a massive effect too. Just hearing the difference in KP from last year to this year. You can see the effect on all the players.

Goes to show you don’t necessarily need hard asses everywhere to get results either. Holbrook, Brown and KP being very similar, easy going guys clearly works for them and that’s what matters.

The idea that a coach has to be some screaming lunatic who goes berserk at the players whenever they’re not at 100% is one of the dumbest ideas. Even if it does work, it’s always had a limited lifespan (see the decline in Michael Maguire’s teams).

But yeah, looking at Ponga, Brown etc, and a lot of today’s players, Pacific players too, can’t think of a coaching style that would be a worse fit for them.
 
I truely believe spraying is still a big need in the game, but it shouldn’t be what you base your style of, but yeah I still think at times players still need a spray once in awhile
 
Yeah everyone needs a rev up from time to time of course. But it’s much more effective if it’s in a rare occasion that it’s really needed.
 
Great insight! It’s good he wants to remain at the club long term. He’s been a part of many successful clubs, and a massive part of turning this club around.
 
I like everything POS is doing but I think we need a new pathway for late developers now.
Knights have always had late developers slipping into the system at 18+ - Saifiti, Lucas, Chris Randall, Zac Hosking, Kurt Donohue, Nathan Ross, David Armstrong - literally dozens over the years.
The new system as outlined by POS in that podcast seems to be training players up from age 15 to firstgrade.

I think we need to think about expanding the Andrew Johns/Laurie Daly teams playing out of Maitland to include a Flegg and a reserve grade team, drawn from local players and Knights fringe players.

Plenty of guys don't physically develop till age 18+ and plenty of guys never improve much after the age of 16.
