Knights Podcasts!

Very interesting, easy to see why the club’s probably in the best position it’s ever been in now. Loved his confidence that they could beat any team on their day at full strength.

Clearly Holbrook’s had a massive effect too. Just hearing the difference in KP from last year to this year. You can see the effect on all the players.

Goes to show you don’t necessarily need hard asses everywhere to get results either. Holbrook, Brown and KP being very similar, easy going guys clearly works for them and that’s what matters.
The chat about the change in him last season to this one, hard not to link it to Kalyn’s chat about how Holbrook tells him to “just be you”. Maybe under AOB he thought that he had to act a certain way as the captain.

It reminds me of changes the Blackcaps made in the mid-2010s. They went from trying to be a tough team like Australia because they thought that would bring them similar success, into talking about wanting to go out there and express themselves, through playing their natural game and displaying their skills. Accepting it won’t always go right and there will be failures, but giving players a long leash and letting them feel comfortable with their spot in the team. It’s definitely led to a decade now that’s probably been the best in their history.

If you look at Kane Williamson who just retired, he’s not a natural “follow me” type leader, but he’s probably the most successful captain NZ has ever had.

Very different sports, but maybe the philosophy is the same.
