Kai Pearce-Paul discussion

Do players not support the ball runner because they’re coached not to offload or is that there’s just a lot of players in this team with very little game awareness?

Or perhaps it’s both 🤔

We played off Fitz offloads a bit last year but that was all very structured, he’d hit the line already with his body in position to offload before the defender made contact. People were ready for them because they were pre-planned moves. While we were really good in attack it was all heavily system based with little off the cuff play because that didn’t suit the talent we had.

Kai I think has a bit more unpredictability to his game, so in theory he can be a guy who adds that extra dimension of ad-lib play, but this can take time to develop.

One thing I'll say is he's often got the ball free in a bit of traffic ... I think teams are marking him quite hard already, and we've struggled to find the right place to be in support. Hopefully they can work on it and start to play off the back of it. He's almost at David Solomona levels with how often he has that arm free.

We can use that jamming defence to our benefit with him as a decoy, we just need good enough halves to make that happen. Hopefully with time it does. KP needs to following him everywhere though for that offload

Think KPP is potentially very good but not yet adjusted to our game as his previous, we are expecting too much too early, yes he looks good.
Team mates are still adjusting to his style aren’t always ready for what he could deliver, few more weeks and that will change, I look forward to it.
Lucas and possibly Cartwright will continue to press for selection which might mean Frizell to middle which in turn might mean Hetherington to Cup unless injury comes into play.
We look strong in our pack.

We should extend before the end of the year and not do another Dom.
The perfect time to extend him is now.

We already know he's good enough to extend. By waiting, all we're doing is increasing his profile, his price and reducing the likelihood of keeping him.

We were dumb enough to take the risk with Voldermort and it burnt us about as badly as a club can be burnt imo. Something tells me we're not the type of club to learn from past mistakes.

Even if you accept the premise that (a) the club did not try to extend He Who Has No Loyalty well before November 2022 and (b) there’s an amount of money which could have been offered to the manager (who was refusing to talk to the Knights while he was - I am almost certain, but it can not be proved - negotiating with South Sydney and Easts the entire time) which would have persuaded Dom to stay… there is one key difference with Kai, and that when he was signed, he’d already played international rep footy for a tier one nation. As opposed to Dom who was struggling to get Championship offers.

Consequently, Kai is already on quite good money. So he probably doesn’t have any sort of incentive to accept a long term deal on a slight pay bump. It would make more sense for him to keep playing and see how high he can push his value. I agree it would be great to have him locked down long term right now, but honestly if you tried to get him to do that after just three games that degree of keenness would probably just make Kai’s camp more aware that it would be smart to hold off.

You want to wait until after about midway thru the season IMO.

You're probably right about most of that stuff.

The manager of 'He Who Must Not be Named' (on this forum) gamed us. And we lost. The old 'we're not open to receiving offers atm' is commericial nonsense. It has no material meaning other than to dissuade untimely (early) offers from the club. It certainly doesn't prevent the club from putting forward an offer. Unsolicited or not, put $500k infront of Dom at the start of the season and he signs that contract, irrespective of what games his manager wanted to play.

We never realistically had a chance, even if it were a level playing field, which it isn't, because the Roosters effective Salary cap is probably 130% of ours. From memory it was reported our offer was in the $500's and theirs in the $700's.

I've come to terms with the commericial realities that distinguish clubs such as the Roosters and Knights from one another.

I don't know who Dom's Manager is, but I know his parents are both lawyers and his brother put off going pro while he finished his masters of law.
I'm going to say Dom is a smart man from a smart family and he's made his own decisions.

Apparently Dom was all but signed up to go to Souths as Sam B had it all lined up, when he left it all fell apart. Roosters came in with their 700K offer and snapped him up.

Nothing we were going to do was gonna keep him.

I agree we should extend KPP now if we can.

He’s played 3 games! Signed on a two year deal. Agree with HVG wait till mid season. Hopefully we are playing well and winning games.

Can’t believe I’m mentioning, those that shall not be named. We were going **** house at the time negotiation's were happening with Dom. So that would have massively worked against us. Players want to be in winning teams. I dare say if that Dom deal was a year later could have been a different story.

Oh wow.....had no idea he was signed on for 2 years, in that case definitely wait.

Ah yes, not just a generational physical specimen but also a 135 IQ.

Who could've guessed he'd be good
