Hi Everyone! (Introduce Yourself!)

I remember being a teenager in Newcastle watching the Sydney premiership on TV and dreaming of a Newcastle team being admitted to the competition one day.

I have followed the Knights since day 1 and watched our 2 premiership wins live. One day we will win another, but I have no idea when this will be.

I thought our team would always be competitive because our players would have pride in representing Newcastle, unfortunately this has not been the case.

Hi, I’m Kurt Mann. I’m currently playing full-back for the Knights vs the Cowboys. I like to post on the Marathon Stadium forum when not in possession of the ball doing one of my amazing runs. In my spare time I like to go to Clown school to practice juggling and conditioning myself to be laughed at by thousands of spectators. I am an avid photographer and have a particular interest in taking pics of my boss Adam O’Brien dressing up as Snow White and reefing off a dozen Bikies. The boss seems to really like this and consistently picks me in the starting side as a thank you.

Got to go now, I can see Val Holmes heading my way on the right so best get myself in position to do something amazing.

Bit harsh on Mann i think. He's a 14 doing a job in the 6 jumper and a lot of games this year he was our best half . He tackles well he hits hard he has skills i dont think he is as bad as some people think. Just my opinion but i think Mann is probably the perfect 14 You could put him in the front row and you would get 100% out of him .
Having said that would i rather a top line 5/8 absolutely yes but i would also go with Clifford at 7 and Pearce at 6 i think Pearce's running game would suit 6.
If Cronulla really are after Pearce and he wants to go, swap him for Johnson . I know he has injuries but that guy can rip a defence to shreds and i'd be inclined to give him a go at 6.

@Owey That's such an awesome history of support ... I wonder how many here have been fans since 1988?! I flew over to the 2002 grand final as a 21yo hoping the Knights would repeat it, but then Joey's injury killed my dreams, so that's the closest I've been to seeing us win one in the flesh.

@Tomacles Haha there used to a member on here called @Jekk who would be absolutely fuming whenever they put up the Newcastle chant over the loudspeaker 😂
I hadn't really thought about it before, but I was kind of the perfect age when the knights came along. Watching the club build up from a team of goers in the first year and adding some class as they went along, and then seeing the juniors start to trickle in was probably my favourite period.

My all time favourite Knight is still Marc Glanville, an original who seemed to be at his best when the team was struggling. Unfortunate he came along around the same time as Brad Clyde, deserved to play a lot more rep footy than he did.

Best game I've ever seen the knights play in was actually a 12-8 loss at home to the eventual premiers Brisbane in 1992. Both teams made a stack of breaks before Langer and Kevvie laid on a couple of tries. Glanville got one back for Newcastle before we made a break right on the buzzer, but our centre passed to Flash Ash Gordon too early and Julian O'Neill saved a certain try.

Hi, I’m an old Nth Sydney supporter. Kenny Irvine fan, best winger ever. When he left to go to Manly I stuck with the Bears up until they were tossed out. Favourite player towards end was Greg Florimo, still have a Bears shirt with Florimo on back hanging up in wardrobe. When Bears finished looked around at a few clubs to follow, Penrith, Cronulla and Knights, a couple of Johns boys seemed to play ok so that was me. other favourites were Chief, Kennedy, Kurt Gidley, Mullen and Sione. Didn’t have heaps of success with Bears and not so good with the Knights so I am definitely not a good luck charm.

I did used to love the Bears throughout the 90s ... they got so close to a Grand Final, it's a shame they never broke through and won a comp. Had some great players ... Florimo, Fairleigh, Billy Moore, Larson, Soden ... Would have been my second team in those days for sure. Still remember them absolutely flogging Manly in 1997 ... and they were the kings of wet weather football!

James summed it up earlier it would be a relief if lodge came here so we can stop supporting this mess.

I’m actually hoping Redcliffe get in the door, they will be a great suburban Brisbane team and I’ll jump on them since I’ve lived here since 98.

I’d be happy to see Ponga walk and reach his full potential at another club.

Sad days, but what are we meant to do? Wait another 10 years watching unenjoyable anxiety ridden knights games. Every time we defend our own line it’s a guaranteed try.

not copping injuries, every club has been smashed with them and are adjusting to it.

Hello I'm Kurt.
Knights supporter living on the Sunshine Coast. I guess there are similarities between the Sunshine Coast and Newy being a more laid-back coastal city about an hour north of a capital city. I've been supporting the Knights against my better judgement since about 2003 when I was old enough to pick my own team, much to the disappointment from my Broncos loving family.

I go to any QLD games I can between here and the Gold Coast however have only seen them win once out of about 9 games I have been to so have decided to give that a rest until we are a more competitive and consistent team. Perhaps I am a bad omen.

I always wonder what bad things we did in our previous lives to be Knights supporters. Must have been pretty horrific.

Hey Kurt, I'd always thought you weren't a fan of kidley...

I'd still rather be supporting the Knights than the Broncos right now, though! So in that sense it was a good choice haha.

G'day...I'm Mark and been following the Knights since I got out of the Sydney rat race back in the early 90's.

Before that I was Parramatta fan - grew up playing junior footy with Brett Kenny at Guilford Leagues...he was the most naturally gifted player I have ever seen ...and our ball boy was Michael Andrews who went on to have a pretty good career with Souths :).

Also played school boys with Steve Ella (Cabramatta High) against blokes like Sterlo(Fairfield Pats) who I still rate as the best half back to ever lace on a boot, even acknowledging Andrew Johns - different and equally brilliant but I do hold Sterlo that highly.

That certainly was a great breeding ground for some of the best players to ever lace on a boot. Oh and BTW @Frank McWilliams I've got to disagree and say that Eric Grothe was the best winger I ever saw!😉

But enough about the deep, dark past😋

Since I headed north, I have been fully hooked on the Red and Blue bandwagon. I can still remember falling off a mate's verandah that held a maximum of 20 people shoulder to shoulder, with 50 of us crowded around a TV at a grand final BBQ as Joey turned THAT ball back in side to give Darren Albert a clear run to the line....that moment still gives me goose bumps! And NO, I never spilt a drop from the stubbie either👍

Apart from all the usual suspects, my favourite Knights player was Adam Muir - deceptively strong, punched above his weight, hard as nails, never took a backward step player who could cut a front rower in half defensively and had a great ability to offload a quality ball in traffic - he just epitomised what a Knights player was for me.

As you can see, this thread is as old as the forum...

We've had a lot of new members over the past few months, which is great to see...please feel free to intro yourself to the group in this thread...doesn't need to be your life story but nice to have a bit of background and insights into who's in this Marathon Stadium community 😉

I used to follow Souths back when boyd davidson and phil blake played. As soon as the Knights entered I swapped to them being my home town team.

Been on this rollercoaster ever since. Was at both 97 and 01 gf's and geez it would be good to get to another one.

88knightforlife im guessing has, member also most likely.

What happened to 88knightforlife?
Similar story for me was a South boy loved Phil Blake. Grew up a bit and hated them been a Knights man through and though since about 13.
