Hi Everyone! (Introduce Yourself!)

Hi everyone!

Welcome to the Newcastle Knights Photo Archive Forum!!!

Sooo ... why did I decide to put a forum on this site? a) The old guestbook kept getting spammed, b) I want a place for Knights supporters to get together and have some fun discussion without any hard-out insults ... I really want people to keep it friendly in this place! Of course, that doesn't mean we can't disagree ... for example - Tony Herman was the greatest player ever to wear the red and blue!!!!

As well as that, this site is all about remembering the good old days, so as well as discussing the present and future of the Knights, please don't be afraid to start a thread reminiscing on how good things used to be!

During the season I will be posting news here each day, so there should be something happening most of the time! Apart from that, sign up right now, and get posting!!! :D :D :D

James.
Thanks for making me welcome. . Watching most of the games from screen and some live . I noted 1 thing ,some of the players are bored of playing, no enthusiasm. Current coach inherited a good solid team ,going places. He did well for couple of years but I think this was due to the momentum that brownie left behind. This year no enthusiasm no accountability and no passion . Think it's time head coach becomes accountable.
He needs to change his ways of coaching and dealing with the players or look elsewhere. Feel for him but hey it's a business , that relys on performance.

Hey All, my names Frank. Decided to get on this forum to just have some genreal chat about our team.

I was 15 when the knights come into the competition. One my my first jobs was selling ice-creams at the then Marathon stadium on game day.
I'll never forget those couple of years. Mostly Sunday afternoons, the stadium was packed out most games. The old "Wallies a ******" chant when Brisbane came to town. The legend he was, that used to get under his skin I'm sure. Haha

I've longed since left Newcastle, when I was in my early 20's but still a solid fan (maybe die-hard, haha) of the Knights. It's been tough going since the glory days of the 90s and early 2000s. And this year has been particularly bad. Hopefully, better times are around the corner.

Welcome aboard Frank! Must have been so cool supporting the team and being at the stadium in the early years ... and seeing the development up until out two premierships! :D

I can share a story from the the early years. I was at a game against the Magpies in 1989. Nearly a season and a half in, seeing the knights score a try was still fairly rare. At home that year, we won a majority of our games because usually the opposition couldn't score at all. But anyway...this particular day the knights led 6-0 just before half time. I was about 14, knowing I'd need a slash, thought I'd pop down just before half time to avoid the drunken rush. As I'm standing at the trough, a series of excited screams emanated from the crowd. My first thought was we had scored a try, sorry I missed it, but good. Then it thought we'd kicked the goal as the cheers continued. I returned to my sit to see we led 18-0 At half time and I'd missed it!! Don't remember who scored the first try, but Gary Wurth caught the kick off, ran to his right as he did, stepped and went straight through and found the bullet Steve Fulmer in support who ran about 60m to score probably the best try we had scored at home to that point. And I missed it...

That reminds me I went to the first Auckland Nines tournament they had and they were such long days, at what point do you think I decided to stretch my legs with a walk around the stadium? 🙄

Reminds me of my brother, probably a bit more dreadful than your story haha. We were in different sections of the stadium in the Gidley conversion game v Melbourne and the poor bugger left with 4 minutes to go.

I didn't miss a home game from 1988 to 1996 just saying lol...
I was there one year (cant remember what year it was ) and a storm came through that was so bad that it literally ripped the plastic poncho off the security guard standing in front of me.
Umbrella's were going from one end of the stadium to the other and not touching the ground .
It's the only time i personally can remember the teams having 20min for half time instead of 10 because the storm was so bad , ive been there for a lot of storms and bad weather but i will never forget that one .

Thats a game I would love to have attended, wow what a finish

Had family season tickets in bay 2 (eastern side and front row on the try line) and can still remember the reaction and the feeling of seeing that ball sail over the posts and the players reaction to Gidley....what was even sweeter was watching the reaction of the Storm players as it went between the sticks:newcastle::cheer::applause:

And, as luck would have it, I have been in one better situation where I was also lucky enough to be seated 6 rows back and directly behind 'this' kick at a very soggy SFS in 1991...we rode this one one all the way over the cross bar and literally rose out of our seats at the same pace the ball was travelling to the posts - an absolutely magical moment, up there with the 1997 Darren Albert grand final try:applause::applause::applause:

Reminds me of that Broncos game, maybe 2009 or so, stadium literally lost power and went dark, players couldn't come back out from half-time till it was fixed. Can't remember how long it was but it must of been at least half an hour.

Hello fellow knights tragics,
I've been a footy fan since i can remember remembering. I loved watching faifax & schubert's flair in the 70's so I'd say my favourite team then was easts. When canberra came into the comp my allegiance swayed with the green machine; wow, what a team. I still don't believe there's been a better combined defensive -attacking team to this day.
Then in 88, i drank from the poisoned red & blue chalice. In reflection, it's only been since then that i realise that i went from a footy fan to a footy fanatic; virtually overnight.
I remember taking my daughter to the M1 (F3) crossover at Toronto to cheer on the knights bus on their way to the gf in 97. I loved later learning that the whole team were honestly & truly emotionally moved by the send off that they received along their whole route but surprisingly they didn't expect.
By accident, I've met a number of knights players over the years. Usually with our kids whilst on holidays, at airports etc... but also with my work. Most of them have been awesomely humble, most memorably jarrod mullen. Both he & his partner were brilliant with our kids. I certainly cherish his accessibility & undivided attention with them when he simply could have brushed them off. Hat infinitely off to you for that JM!
Nowadays however, our 3 kids are all grown up and we've not only tainted them with the rare eye disease, being one is red whereby the other eye is blue, but we've also tainted our 5 poor grandchildren in much the same light; they are doomed I tells ya!
Our later years have permitted my wife & i the somewhat selfishness to repeatedly buy season tickets. Whereby we sit every game, with the obvious covid & sickness exclusions, in bay 3 right on the southern 10m line. It's been a great spot over the years but unfortunately we've noticeably been overrun by opposition fans this year due to our poor form & their respective teams improving form. There's always next year, right?!
Anyhoo, that's enough waffle from this true red & blue fan. Lastly, I'd like to say a big thanks to all that have been graciously interinteractive with me thus far, especially james who's helped me in the background.
Many thanks for reading this long-winded intro!
Cheers Al...
