2025 Recruitment And Retention

Guru mentions he’s not high on Pezet being the leader of a club.
I rewatched the 2019 Matthews GF the other day to remind myself of what Pezet brings as a half, and basically just watched Pezet.
The amount he was doing off the ball was incredible.
Every player who did something good got a pat on the back and words of encouragement from Pezet.
Every time they needed to dig deep, Pezet was going from player to player to gee them up.
Every attacking play he was pointing and shouting and directing guys to where he wanted them.

As I've said before, Pezet hasn't shown what a leader he is when playing firstgrade for Melbourne, because he is the kid in a team full of very experienced guys, but in Matthews and Ball for us, Flegg and reserve grade for Melbourne, for NSW reps etc, he just about plays like an on field coach, directing players around like Joey Johns.

Ironically I just watched the knights segment in the bloke transfers show. Wanted to see if they mentioned Pezet as an option.

Kempy brought up Pezet as a good option to bring in as our 7. Guru’s immediate response “Isn’t it amazing the fall from grace of the halves that took them to the finals 12 months ago” - Buddy, we get it you love Hastings, and Gamble was injured for majority of last season.

He has never rated Pezet and has regularly said that Under 19 Blues game was a one off performance and not a real indication of him as a player.

So the facts. Hugh’s is signed till end of 26. Munster 27. Wishart 26. Pending injury and origin, he will second or third string half for two years. If Melbourne resign Hugh’s then he will remain in the same situation.

For the life of me I don’t see why he would stay at Melbourne. There’s no way they can match the reported Knights offer.

Watched him play a couple of games for Melbourne and didn't know what the fuss was about . But with the amount of footy you have watched him play Billy , I trust your judgement . Hope he is the answer to our prayers 🙏🏼

Yeah no guarantee he works out, if you watched the game when we beat the storm this year you wouldn't be offering him 65k let alone 650k.

Munster/Hughes were outs, paps at FB, wishart 6, Grant hooker so a similar if not better level of spine talent than what he will have here.

Have to roll the dice though.

He’d be mad not to take 650k. What would the Storm be offering? I can’t see them offering anything over 450k and probably two year deal and see what happens.

As much as anything else I really like how desperate the Storm are to keep him. They had no choice but to prioritise Wishart because he can play almost anywhere on the field and is currently hitting serious form. So no matter what they think of Pezet, Wishart comes first.

But the fact they're considering hindering their cap for Pezet, a 4th string specialist half, tells you they are convinced he is that guy

Noticed he’s had Junior Nsemba staying with him in Newcastle for a couple of weeks. Nsemba is regarded as one of the best young forwards in England and had a lot of NRL interest earlier this year before re-signing with Wigan longterm though I'd guess that includes get-out clauses. Would be a bit of an awkward fit at the Knights with a lot of young second-rowers already on the books (and presumably KPP still around if Nsemba were to choose the Knights) but he has the size to transition into the middle.

Article on potential Pezet signing.

The only new things in the article are that Troy Pezet now works for Wyong Roos, and Jonah claims Valentine Devils as his junior club (I thought he was an Entrance Tiger)

You would think if Leo mentioned he wants leaders and roles models around, none much better for a kiwi international then Adam Blair.
Yep, this was my suggestion a while back. Let Blair do his role as talent scout or whatever, but also set him up as Leo's mentor. He has a lot of mana for Kiwis and would be a great sounding board and motivator for Thompson.
