2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Latest entirely unverified rumours I've seen are suggestions we'd trade Dom Young to Manly for Reuben Garrick and that we would also entertain a player swap with Souths for Dom if the right player were offered.

I rate these both as extremely unlikely to have any validity whatsoever and the mere thought of either makes me physically ill.
Wouldn't be worried about this. This isn't the NFL. Trades can't, and don't, happen without agreement of both players involved.

Nothing stopping it if both players agree. Just have to mutually terminate both contracts with a handshake to join the other team.

Highly doubt it is true.

Anyways if Manly won’t release Garrick for 2024 we are better off throwing 700k a season at Drinkwater to be fullback since he is off contract in 2024.

Why haven’t we heard of an extension to contract, others have had discussions or is he playing the “”””SHOW ME THE MONEY””””” game

He's one of the few who would actually have interest from other clubs, don't blame him for wanting to at least test the market first. Also the reason it wouldn't have shocked me if he had indicated he wasn't going to re-sign and Knights started looking for a player swap for next year, hope it's not the case though. Will be a truly depressing day if he leaves.

It's part of the reason why I'm really supportive of our little English young guns club, living on the other side of the world without your family would be a massive challenge but if we can build a little group of Young/Hodgson/Pryce/Pearce-Paul you'd imagine that would be a decent draw for them to stay at the club. Obviously if we could pair that group with success we're more likely to become an attractive proposition for other talented players from England in the future as well.

If knights swap Young for Garrick or Johnson that would be the last straw for me I reckon.
Ill give up after 20 odd years

along with the rest of the new signings the club will market them to be announced just before member renewals are due. id say around grand final week or just after there will be a flurry of announcements.

I don’t think he’ll get a lot of game time for them. Canberra always seem to have more good forwards than they actually need.

That's a big and potentially long-term loss loss!
Left his run too late. Not his fault entirely with injury setbacks. But even if we don't want him, he's shown he can do a job for someone out of the 500 or so players that will be contracted to a team next year. There's definitely guys out there with a deal that he's better than.
