2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Saulo will go well at Canberra.
Ricky will be a good coach for him.

10 years ago or so we couldn't find a prop for the lower grades to save our lives - Joel Edwards, Dane Tilse and Korbin Sims were the few who looked OK.
Suddenly, we now have The Twins, Croker, Talty, Toleafoa, Jenkins, Purcell, Bradbury, Bryan, Martin, Williams, Burgess, Glamazina, Greacen. We have released Hoskins, Sue, Ticehurst, Lachlan Crouch, the Johhannsen brothers and now Saulo.
In short, we are drowning in middle forward prospects, but have to go to England to find a winger these days, and the 10 or so guys we've tried in the halves this year in the lower grades are not setting the world on fire yet.

In fairness Billy, outside of the twins, all those guys are still nobodies until we see them play 30+ NRL games. Unfortunately with this club's recent history, I don't have much faith just yet that they don't turn out to be just the next Edwards, Tilse, Sims.

We only need 2 or 3 of them to come good.
Sadly, I've thought for a few years that Ticehurst is the guy with the attitude to come good, and now he is in the Melbourne system I can see him popping up for Melbourne next year and everyone wondering where he has come from (getting splinters in his backside on the Knights reserve grade bench).

The names in bold are still nobodies right now, hopefully a few can become good NRL players for us.

Tilse did ok? You don't play 200nrl games if your useless. Edwards should have stayed on, bit of mongrel about him and Sims well yeah..........

I don't know if I'm getting my point across, so I'll try again.

Saulo is a good prospect.

10 years ago we would have given our eye teeth for a middle forward prospect like Saulo.

Right now, we have 10 younger and potentially better prospects. In fact, we are letting several go because we can't find spots for them all.

Not so long ago, losing a NSW rep like Saulo or Crouch, or a junior Kiwi like Ticehurst or Manamania would have been a big loss. Now, I back the 5 NSW reps and 2 Qld reps we are keeping to fill the 1 or maybe 2 middle forward vacancies we will have for the top 30 in the next few years.

Going through the Flegg team lists last week and seeing the Johhannsen brothers named for Canterbury, Lachlan Crouch named for Cronulla, Christian Ma'amania named for Wests and seeing Dan Ticehurst named for Melbourne's Qld cup feeder feels like it's crazy that so many prospects have slipped through our fingers, but we are drowning in middle forward prospects.

Knights are still shopping Klemmer to other clubs for next year according to Danny Weidler's column in the Sydney Morning Herald. Also says Sheens is determined to keep Brooks, and Doueihi or Hastings could be on the move instead.

I’d let Klem go to spend the money on a proper halfback. Knowing the club (if it’s true) they probably want to move him to overpay a different forward though.

There was a Twitter rumour earlier in the week that the Knights & Dragons were discussing a Klemmer for Su’A swap. Still don’t really buy it but Hook does have a fetish for past their prime forwards, and McGuire/Woods are both on their way out,
