2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Clune has played a lot better than Clifford this year though, give or take the odd shanked kick. Don’t think it sends the best message to drop him for Jake.

When the forwards do they’re job and team holds the ball. Clune has been pretty successful and getting the team where they need to, to score.

I really like Clifford, massive soft spot for him cause he seems to have the talent and young. Just needs a bit more balls when it comes to controlling the game. Otherwise he’s a really good 5/8. But we’re about to have about 4 of them.

If Milford leaves then it will be 6 Clifford, 7 Clune unless we find someone else because at this stage they are both good reserve graders and not quite 1sts

Clifford will be 25 in a few months. He isn't young. And it should be apparent now that he isn't that talented.

Clifford is a backup half. There's a cavalcade of issues with his game that seem to forever come and go plaguing his form. And he's hardly been injured. He has certain limitations. If the Knights are serious about improving year on year it isn't acceptable to concede to another year with a lacklustre borderline reserve grade halves pairing.

Bugger. So Clune and Clifford or Brooks in 2023. 😒

See I reckon Luke is gonna stay. Tigers powerbrokers can’t bring themselves to admit they were wrong about prioritising him over Moses et al. They’ve just put Hastings at lock this week. Anything but dropping Luke to reserve grade (for the first time in his career!).

That is scary. He's got a baby face and still working his way into first-grade which makes him seem a lot younger. It must be mental with him, we've seen him when he was playing well. Confident, strong, runs the ball, insane kick on him. Part of letting Pearcey go was allowing these guys step up and seeing who could hack it. Unfortunately Clifford has crumbled. We've learned he's no halfback, but there's really no reason he can't be another Matt Burton, who himself is a couple years younger than Cliffo and playing Origin now.

Aside from a big boot (Burton's boot is bigger), there's not much else they share in common. Burton is an Origin centre. Clifford is a sluggish big bodied 6, who seems capable of success in brief moments of games, in brief moments of seasons. I don't know why that is. Maybe it's for reasons that are treatable. But the older he gets the more likely it is that we're wasting our time hoping.

Amend my post to Clune and Clifford or Crossland then 😭😭😭

I like Keary but with his concussion issues you'd have to wonder how much of a future he has in the game unfortunately.
