2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I see David Nofoaluma and Joe Ofahengaue have been both dropped this week.
I wonder if the Tigers would be interested in Young for the season?
If so maybe we can grab Ofahengaue off them? I know we shouldn’t be buying players from a wooden spoon team but he’s experienced and he would provide much needed depth.
He did win their player of year award last year too. So he must be on the outer.

James Gavet is back playing NSW Cup for Warriors in the No. 16 this weekend. Theres an experienced prop who would settle for a 6 month contract, we need the depth

Personally, I’d say no to Joe O unless Wests are kicking in about half his salary (which would be an odd arrangement given we are still paying Klemmer). I’m pretty sure he makes over $600K a year. That’s a ‘pack leader’ salary but IMO he’s more the kind of guy where you’re pretty happy if he’s your fourth best middle. Kind of just okay-to-good at everything (although his ballplaying at 13, where he gets used a fair bit, may be the worst in the comp tbh).

If the club was going to drop big bickies on another middle forward I’d want us to be looking at Nelson Asofa-Solomona (off contract this year) or Mo Fotuaika (next year). Genuine alpha dogs.

Not a chance that Young wants to go to that dumpster fire. And, Joe O is trash. Depth is important but it needs to be decent if/when called upon, and Joe is not that.

I’m talking about this season only.
If the Tigers aren’t planning to use Ofahengaue in first grade then I would rather him coming off the bench than a Brodie Jones.
If AOB is planning to leave Young in reserve grade for the rest of year then we better off trying to get some sort of player swap for this season.
It’s slim pickings out there…

I don't think he will leave Young in Cup all year.
Im guessing he has just been told to go back and work on his handling and effort areas.
We need his yardage and game breaking talent this year.

Joe O not the guy I’d pick either way. They’d only do it to save cap space. Would legit rather save the money and pre-pay dudes part of their 2024 salary to free up space for next year, & swap him for one of the Chooks forwards who’s making a pie and can of coke eg Baker or May.

It’s all good naming Baker/Butcher/May but realistically we are no chance of making that trade happen.

I wouldn’t have dropped Young. He is still playing with heart, he just have ****s for hands.

Reports saying Cows definitely haven’t signed Leeming as they already have Robson and Granville (really, Granville??). Also said his manager is now sounding out other NRL clubs.

Latest chat in Leeds is that he’s off to the Titans to provide cover for Sam Verills…..https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/rugby-league/kruise-leeming-nrl-leeds-rhinos-26518702

A real shame we are not after him, would be a good back up to Brailey at 9 I reckon.

If Leeming goes to Titans, we should see if Randall can be released if he's buried on the depth chart. He'd make a decent backup option here 😆

Yeah Curran is good.

Bit of an off-field cloud around him (alleged assault of a teenager at a pub in Port Macquarie). He’s still playing because it’s not bad enough for the no-fault stand down rule. Dunno if that stuff has an influence on him not playing for the Warriors atm.

But yeah I’d be on board. Can play anywhere in the back row.
