2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I don't know much about this guy but this was mentioned on Reddit a couple of weeks ago.

How old is Fergo? Is he straight into Flegg next year? I think if he keep progressing like he does and has a preseason with 1st he dismount any player with the knights who is in a centre position. I have no doubt about it.
 
didn't have him my list for possible prop targets for 2023 but Thomas Mikaele looks like he has just signed with the Titans for this season, plenty of props getting early season transferred. Dont think Zammit is doing too good of a job of trying to fix that depth issue. Mikaele has played 66 games for Tigers and is currently at Warrington having played 17 games there, only 25 years old this year too

He's 18 turning 19 this year, so too old for Ball next year.
He has taken part in firstgrade pre-seasons for the last two years, as well as training with NSW and Australian schoolboys.
In the 2022 season he played Ball up till the finals, Flegg till the grandfinal, for under 18s city v country, for Australian schoolboys, and between all that he was doing firstgrade sessions all pre-season and often during the season.
For the 2023 season he did all the pre-christmas firstgrade pre-season and I think they must have decided he needed a break after Christmas.
Like the others who played in the Flegg grandfinal, he only got a month off in 2022, and like the others, he probably kept training on his own.
It's hard to remember that it was only 2 years ago in 2021 that he was a chubby kid scoring a try a game in Mathews and there being real doubts about his fitness and commitment.

We're well placed going into the next decade with the likes of Best, Mapa, Lucas, Fergurson, Sharpe, Falemoe et.al. coming through. I think Fergurson is as good as Sione and Tapine were at the same age. The kid could be anything.
 
The way our roster is currently set up, I’d only look to add an edge second rower or a back up hooker significantly better than what Crossland/Mann offer.

How funny would it be if his job went to Garth Brennan, although I actually think that Parr and Michael Dobson have it covered between them and we don't need to pay anyone for his role.
 
Might be a bit of a restructure. Parr definitely seems to be taking a big hand in list management and recruitment of established players. New job title for Zammit’s replacement might be ‘Chief Scout’ or something.

That's what I was going to say, those guys might be handling the list management but no way they are going to have the time to go watch young guys play or go overseas to scout.
 
I did say years ago that Zammit was pushed out the Cowboys and not poached by the Knights.

A very well informed poster on the Cowboys forum said this despite many believing he was poached.

Parr was in charge back then too.
