2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Heartbreaking. I hate that he has decided to leave after we took a punt on the kid. I get the "there's no loyalty" but **** that. He had one good year, repay the faith a club gave you. Anyway. I could be angry and say stupid ****, but i'll leave it at good luck to him. Hope he scores 30+ tries for us this year and we make the finals.

He wasn't on big coin here, so its not like we have heaps of $$ to go after someone. But we'll need to be aggressive in the market for 24, but smart. Need back rowers more then anything and a Forward or two to give our U21's another Pre season to develop. But another damaging winger and excellent finisher will be needed too.

I don’t want to post anything in here which might get the forum in trouble Oliver, but if the rumour I’ve heard about Gus Crichton is true, he might be out of the game for a very, very long time. May never come back.

Are you serious?!!
That might explain how the Roosters can afford Dom.

$500k a year for young is very bad cap management. Hope he goes well but the roosters don’t mind throwing players under the bus, just look at the treatment of Flanagan.

Strange cap management when their pack is so average.

It's not really. These aren't the days of Aku on $500k, the salary cap has almost doubled since then and has another substantial increase this year. It's certainly backing him to be one of the better outside backs in the comp sooner rather than later and he's very capable of that. Will look even better scoring 20+ tries a season with a team that knows how to use him. Giving the Roosters the benefit of the doubt (lol) it probably means they know Sualii is gone and/or Tupou is about to finish up.

All that said I hope we don't see him in first grade here this season. Not logical for short-term wins but I'd rather watch someone who might have a future here.

The Roosters...seriously. Dom is dead to me, never want to see him in my clubs colours again.

The transfer system is broken when this happens two weeks out from the season kicking off. And something seems dodgy when we can't compete money wise with the roosters. I know a lot of this is down to knights mismanagement which doesn't help.

Expect they don’t just have young on big money in the outside backs they have a million dollar fullback, $700k centre and two $500k wingers. Lot of money tired up in outside backs, when your prop stocks are slim.

Surely he has to play his time out here or we negotiate a trade/trades that is are in our favor. If they let him go early we need something decent in return. I'm not sure I trust our hierarchy to come up with a suitable solution.

Roosters are probably pretty content playing out the season with the superstar outside backs they already have while AOB gives him another season of development in games that don't matter. They won't give up anything of note for him.

It’s all very simple guys.

The Roosters sign their players on massive unders. That’s how they manage to have an all-rep team.

Then, when there’s a big star off contract, they outbid everyone else, and they’re able to pay his huge salary because one of their other players (who, as established above, is actually paid very little, due to their genius cap management!) leaves, thus freeing up much needed cap space.

Which part of this doesn’t add up, I ask you?

You can't tell me this doesn't **** some of the players off. Players leave all the time but after only one year of good performances after being picked from oblivion to then **** off to the glitz and glammer club. It'd ****ing hurt as a teammate

Good luck to you Dom, would have been stupid to take less money to stay at the knights.

This way we will see just how good he can be.

I think Dom will probably replace tupou who is turning 32 and off contract, so the roosters will be happy to let Dom play with us this year and won't entertain a player swap.

Lastly, every year I get told the knights must have significant cap space free, because, they just must. But the way they operate in the transfer market suggests otherwise and this is just more evidence. Michael Hagan must be smiling thinking about how the club still overpays basically everyone (except Dom, it would seem).

I imagine not wanting to play under O'Brien would have been a factor.
Pongas contract is going to effect recruitment for the next 5 years. The highest paid player in the game, who's not in the top 5 in his position.

Give him a chance at least he has played a handfull of games a few years back and half a trial. But yes we are not getting our moneys worth at the moment.
