2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Hopefully a great signing, even for 3 years. I know everyone wants to pin hopes on Hodgson, but we can't expect him to walk into the FB position without playing a full season. Having Miller provides solid depth & competition to hopefully bring the best out of Hodgson. By his 3rd year of the contract Miller will either be Dylan Edwards 2.0, reserve grade FB or at the Dolphins.

Think Hodgson will bust a gut trying, will put pressure on Miller though might take half a season for him to do it so competition is good. If Hodgson proves a failure, likely due to injuries, then we can let him go as we will have others coming along, side is looking better with depth and a few changes will come end of 2023 with contracts running out

This club deserves the pain and suffering that will come if we lose Dom Young. His impact on a game is arguably equal to that of a Suaalii. We have an extra years worth of wages at our disposal. There's no excuse to lose him. He is comfortably worth $500k p.a. to us.

There's no excuse.
Yeah mistake was made delaying. Not sure why they did. I still think he’ll resign. We’ll just have to match what’s been offered. With KPP and Pryce be strange for him to move away from them. And MCDermott for that.

Souths are probably the least of our worries.
If I were Dom and an actual title contender made a competitive offer, i'd go for sure.
I don't think Souths are the best offer he'll get.

he can also play 6, which he did in NSW cup for the sharks. handy back up for KP during Origin.

Souths aren’t that far away despite the fact their back 5 contribute fewer metres per game than pretty much any other in the comp. You’re kidding yourself if you think Dom wouldn’t be a big difference maker for them and he wouldn’t help them seriously compete for the title if they got him.

Dom is young bloke in a new country. He has English mates at the club and more coming next season. He lives on the beach in an area where the price of real estate is half that of South Sydney. We will be able to match the annual value of the contract as well as top him up this year.

If he leaves it is only for a chance at the premiership. I'm not sure that is enough to outweigh everything we are currently offering him. He'd be absolutely sweeping the floor with women here, too. Only downside is that Ponga's already knicked a vast majority of the current female population of Newcastle

It will be interesting to see what miller does for the second and third years of his contract, once will Pryce arrives. Replace gagai in the centres?

Baz thoohey saying player swap
Could involve a young player from knights. INCREDIBLY stupid losing ANY talent from the JFlegg squad or SG BALL squads. We haven’t had talent like what he have in those squads now in years. As happy as I am to get Miller, I’d lose my mind if they do that.
Lol that didn't take long

I haven't seen Liam Sutton for weeks - since we started talking about Miller really.
Star Cronulla junior they weren't happy to lose. Great athlete, but not much of a playmaker for a halfback.

If I were Cronulla, looking for a swap, I'd ask for Dylan Lucas - kid from down that way who is firstgrade ready and way, way younger than Miller. We could afford to lose him since we have about 6 young centres.
