2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Miller and Hodgson seem very different players.
Ideally, you'd like your backup fullback to play a similar style and be able to move in seamlessly if needed.
David Armstrong (from the little I've seen of both) is very similar to Miller.

He’ll be a pretty great pick up I think. Between himself, Hodgson and Gags there are three strong FB option to go with Hastings, Pong and Brailey. Now to just keep them on the paddock.
I think that's a bit premature. They are certainly options, I can't say they're strong options yet, plenty of water to go under the bridge. Miller is still a back up player at the Sharks at the moment, Hodgson is a kid who's barely played a game for us and Gags hasn't played fullback for a while now and is getting on.

I've got a few mates that are shark supporters and they rate Miller, which although I agree with your comment, is a positive.

It is interesting to see what happens with Hodgson. As far I can see, he is fully fit right now and taking part in a full pre-season so far? He's like a new signing to the squad. Body is a couple more years mature, I'm excited to see him play if he starts in NSW Cup round 1. Safe to say he can't cop another big injury next year though otherwise he'll probably be on his way back to England in 2024.

Every time I think about typing that I think no, I don't want to jinx the poor kid when he's nearly there.

From the Sharks forum,

"newcastle asking again for miller, we are asking about fitzgibbon or frizell in return".

"id take friz on a 2 year deal, not interested in fitzgibbon as i dont want that NIB logo near us".

The second one cracked me up.
Also they are both probably our starting back row in 23 with not much back up.

Just sharks fans being delusional. They can have tuala
Not sure why Tuala gets as much hate on this forum as he does. He's been moved all over the backline and seems to play best on the wing. If any of our backs need to be gone, I'd send Gagai packing given the salary he's on. He's underperformed for us so far IMO, and is on the wrong side of 30.

Tuala with his pace and a decent halves pairing would get more early ball and be more of a threat IMO

Tuala is a reliable back up/rotation/squad player.

Yet he's found himself in our starting team most weeks for the now lengthy period he's been with us. He's done a decent job for that period but the site of his name is a reminder to the fans that the club has no upward trajectory - we'll always been the club settling for the Tuala's.

He always looks good when he plays on the wing for us and crap in the centres. Also our centres always seem to be be playing below what we perceive them to be capable of so hardly alone.
