2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Considering the way we were playing those first couple of rounds you would be forgiven for thinking that.
Was that when he got injured? Round three maybe? It hard to think we were looking good up to round 3 against the Panthers then Barney did the high shot. We played out that game ok with 12, then it was downhill from there.

So clune getting injured, and all of a sudden Clifford lost form.

I would take Niu if we can get him for no more than 300k and just for the one season. He’s not a long term solution but our depth for next year is horrendous.

Sorry, are you in some kind of time warp, Hoy is gone, Crossland yet to be officially? signed.
Based on current signings if we move Ponga to 6 who plays 1 and who plays 7.
Gamble is a 6, find a good 7, Hastings, Brooks etc and Ponga is 1 until we find suitable 1 and 7 to make it work until then we just have to suck it up and hope for the best, we ain’t to bad in every other position barring head coach
Look Ponga moving to 6 is probably not going to be our saviour, but I don't know how people are happy to go into next season with him at fullback again. What changes from last season then? Nothing. Even if we don't sign anyone, at least we can try for a better combination. Get Ponga playing a possibly more natural position for him, and you can throw anyone who can run the ball and is willing to work at fullback. We were already willing to do that with Garrick, from all reports Bailey Hogdson isn't the greatest ball player either. Doing nothing is just accepting another 2022 season.

players coming of contact next year, I don’t think we should settle for brooks, some decent backs hitting the market why settle for brooks or Hastings? Bring in a new coach to put his mark with a fair bit of cap space to use…dead wood Fitz, tuala, hunt, and a few others hitting use by date…we have money available.

Personally I would be playing Gagai at fullback for the one season until Hodgson or Armstrong is ready.
I don’t see why he can’t make 200m a game and chime in the backline? We just need the coach to have game plan to play to our strengths.

1. Gagai
2. Young
3. Best
4. Mapa
5. Hunt
6. Ponga

The biggest question mark is who plays 7? We desperately need someone to lead the side around the park.

I just had a quick look at West Tigers website, just out of curiosity. Jackson Hastings appears in some of their 2023 promotional images, I couldn't find anything with Brooks in it! If he is coming, something will have to be sorted before he is due back at Tigers pre-season, presumably Monday?? If he starts pre-season with them it's all over for him being a Knight in 2023!

Very interesting article! We are trying to sign Hastings for 2024. The 8th has called Hastings to convince him to join the Knights. Hastings may be part of a swap for Klemmer or Friz for 2023.

I hope we sign Hastings for 2023 and I would be happy to swap him for Friz.
