2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

i'd prefer to go after AL Brimson as fullback.
That’s a great idea, the Titans could have Campbell, Foran, Boyd and Verrils as the spine. They don’t necessarily need Aj, imo AJ is levels above Campbell but it seems as though the Titans rate Campbell highly. The Titans will lose one of them in the future for sure because I don’t think Brimson is a 6.

agree with all of that but the 6 comment at the end. He makes a great running 5/8 like Wighton IMO but yes would still be a great target

Pretty scary, aob is so desperate to play Ponga in the halves he will cheerfully attempt to bring Tesi Niu here to play FB, despite Niu having huge holes in his game and not improving as a player in 2-3 seasons.

This is what meant by a 4th year of AOB doing more harm than good. He will sign him up for a minimum of 2-3 years when Niu is at best a single season stop gap solution, if he can even be described as a solution. Selfish and short-sighted stuff from our recruitment

On Niu, I haven't watched much of him but does he play other positions?
Why would the Dolphins be after him to play fullback if they have the Hammer?

I reckon you could guarantee Niu has no intention of coming here and is using faux competitive interest to bump up his asking price with the Fins.
You could argue the opposite, too. Niu and his agent are likely desperate to secure any contract anywhere and their foremost priorities are contract value and contract period. I don't like that the Dolphin's are also 'interested' because it allows his agent to push an even more desperate AOB into contract terms that are foolish for the club to commit to once AOB is sacked in a few months time

I still think we go after suaali'l offer him 1mill and the fullback position and don't care if you can't get him till 24 as long as it's for 4 to 5 years well worth the wait

Yes. He's under contract with them until the end of 2026... Not sure why people are even bothering to mention him
because the Titans have too many halves and spine players, so someone will have to miss out.

Since the Titans signed Brimson, they have now signed Foran, who is predominately a 5/8,
they seem to be going with Campbell as the first choice fullback
so Brimson is either going to be playing a bench role or reserve grade. He is too good for that, so there might be an option for us to swoop in. Contracts mean nothing these days if both parties agree to break them

If we don't go after Brimson, then go after Sexton. One of them will become available

So would I buy he just signed long term suaali'l has a clause were he can negotiate each year
i don't read into contracts any more, they are just there to make sure the player gets paid. Other than that they are worthless. Players and clubs break them all the time. We just need to find the right player in the right situation to be willing to break their contract.

Manu is more the pipe dream, not practical

Moving Ponga to 6 is only going to work if we have a good fullback and a good halfback.
ATM we have neither and neither are available anywhere.
I think it'll work regardless. He already plays like a half, chuck Hoy in at fullback and Crossland at halfback and I still think it's a better fit for the team. Now if we want to be competing for a top 4 spot, that's where your good fullback and halfback will need to come in.
