Super Coach

I'm coming in a bit late on this post but to get back to the original idea, i have to say that the most influential coach for this club was Alan MacMahon.........

He set the standard of power and passion right from the get go. Unfortunately this style of passion/power and wanting to be the player that other players want to play alongside has been watered down from his day but he laid a great foundation for a new club which, unlike Brisbane didn't have access to soo players.

It was a shame that his stint as a coach ended in tears but the foundation was there for others to build on..........

I think he meant Robbie'O liked wearing baggy jerseys? which was the case with most players back in the late 90's/Early 00's before the tight fit jerseys came in.

On Mullen taking a paycut...Why? we will pay him his market value. If another club outbids us, itll be stupid of us not to match it, unless its WAY more then his worth. We have trouble getting high profile players to club as it is, why try and force a local boy out when we have plenty of room to work with in the Salary Cap.

Gidley and Mullen will be here as long as they personally want too. Their home is here, they came through the juniors here, and the Club can match any other clubs offers (and most likely will seeing they are the face of this team). The only way they leave is if they want to head overseas, which in that case they'd probably be on the downhill run anyway, ala Buderus/Gidley etc.

i really do see alot of our players staying with the knights but i could be wrong, i always said cooper vuna would stay and i was wrong :(

Only reason he left was because of the massive offer from Union. Sadly the same kinds of temptations will be there for Uate come his next contract negotiations.

The fact of the matter is that in the NRL wingers arnt really valued to high unless they are absolutely freakish like Vatuvai. Good thing is Uate is just as important to this side (well at least this year) as a halfback, fullback or hooker, who are generally the higher paid players. In saying that, I dont think Uate, as a winger, will ever earn 300-350k+ as a winger in the NRL, whereas, he'd easily attract twice that in rival codes if he continues his rapid improvent.

There would only be a handful of club wingers on 200k+ atm. Probably Vatuvai, Lote would be the top two, then guys like Uate, Morris, but not too many more (unless they play centre too).

The club would value Gidley and Mullen extremely high, because they play in important roles, and the Knights could pay them just as much ad any other club, and they wont have to fight off other codes, and I doubt they'd wanna go to the ESL in the prime of their careers, especially Mullen who hasn't really achieved the type of rep honours he would want.

I don't think Uate is on that much money really, he got given a massive extension. Before he hit his awesome form

dont think mullen will take a pay cut... had in sundays paper he already rejected an extension from the knights, his manager said he doesnt want to go anywhere else just need to sort a few things out....

I can almost guarantee, with no knowledge of his actual contract, that he is on decent-to-good money, especially for a winger. You don't sign a cheap four-year contract when you have as much potential as Aku. His 4-year deal would have been very lucrative for a guy who had only 20 FG games under his belt. He was getting interest from other clubs and codes, so the club had to lock him up quick smart.

With long term contracts the club takes a risk, to pay the player more then they are currently worth for the first season or two of the contract, in the hope that in the final year or two they are worth well above their contract. So far its looking a GREAT move by the club, as Akus value would be at an all time high.

yes i definetly do agree with that. we were a one man team, we no longer have that tag in the NRL.

If you are commenting on my post then I was saying that we are a one man team again now, our record without Gidley in 2010 was abysmal.

yes but the team has the belief that they can win, and any team would struggle without a player of gidleys class and talent

Isn't that what makes a one man team?

How old are you Joshy baby? either a young buck, or outta your mind! haha.

Absolutely, I almost mentioned him and David Waite when I said Reilly was our best coach.

Both contributed a lot to our eventual success in 1997, I think. We wouldn't have made it to that point without them.

Thank god for you, corunetes ... one excellent post in frankly the wackiest thread I've ever read ... page four ... reading it is like taking acid!
