Super Coach

With Rick stone the current coach of Newcastle, and i believe doing a good job, who do you think has been the best coach of Newcastle.

Yea I think he is a good coach too. There are some real Stone haters so I was having a joke but I think he has potential to be a real good first grade coach.

Yeah there are and i dont get it, it would be hard to come out from assistant and become the first grade coach of a big side like Newcastle. If his coaching is not the best his recruitment definetly is.

Yea he has done a pretty good job with the resources available but the two most criticized things this season on here have been coaching and recruitment. So you may cop it from some people for this thread.

Stone has the potential to become a top notch coach, but some of the clueless decisions he makes about players and the way he was training the boys at the start of the year. I remember he said he changed the way the boys were training and he started cracking down on them and we went on and started slaughtering teams.

I'm a hard critic of him, especially when he plays Wes in the second row off the bench and when he moves Mcmanus onto the right wing when Uate was scoring hattricks every week there, towards the end of the year I was starting to jump on the bandwagon a little bit because he had the team running smoothly.

yeah he can muck some dumb decisions, but he is more experienced and hopefully he womt make the same mistakes.

Well i would be happy with his coaching if it weren't for two things:

1. Training. He always trains the boys softly in the pre-season, such as 2010 pre-season & now it looks like 2011 pre-season too. This resulted in players being unfit, most notably Richie Fa'aoso.

2. The weekly team selctions. Most weeks this season, he made some shocker selections, such as when we didn't have many props, he contemplated using Ciraldo in the front row over Joel Edwards who was way overdue. Plus the usual selections of Wes, Ciraldo, Tolar in games where there not needed over someone like Edwards, Taufua etc.

Apart from that, i loved his recruitment drive, even though we've missed some pretty notable players.

I heard from a number of people the boys expressed they were being trained to hard and were getting fatigued in the game quicker than usual.
As for best coach if this is in the history of the knights Mal Reily for sure

Warren Ryan was a pretty good coach from what I've heard from other people. A lot of people I know compare him with Brian Smith.

bollocks...
hey, let's play a game called 'Name the Premiership
Winning Coach'...
Hagan was coaching a superhuman team at the time. Smith/Stone haven't had that luxury.

You can't possibly tell me, we won the comp on the back of Hagan?

We sure didn't.

Hagan won a premiership in his first year with Warren Ryan's team and defence, and Andrew Johns' brilliance. The team, particularly defensively, went backwards from there (have a look at how Qld defended under his guidance also)

Hagan has similarities to Ricky Stuart (another overrated coach) who won a premiership with Phil Gould's team and Freddy Fittler's brilliance.

All he's done is made the finals off Brian Smith's team & missed the finals this year, not a super coach in my mind.
