THE GRAND FINAL VS ROOSTERS ❤️💙❤️💙❤️

Yeah it's super easy to ignore all the news about it when there isn't much about it. Even those super random 'watch parties' in the Eastern Suburbs were super lols.

I will say it helps that we lost to the Roosters … there’s been like zero hype or anything about it, it looked like they could only muster 200-300 at their victory celebrations. Nobody cares, so it hasn’t been rubbed in our faces all week. 😂
I had a POS Souths supporter picking at my threads since we beat them would you believe? We had this harmless back and forth that got really pathetic, nasty and immature so naturally I went all in on it. 🥴😆 I had heard non stop how Penrith were going to out 60 on us and then at half time just after Phoenix was removed he went up 10 gears. Then we won so I went up 10 more and he finally stfu… until one minute after the siren went on grand final day 🤬🤣

I hate that guy with a passion.

I’ve finally decided to watch the replay after being at the game. The dom young knock on in the second half was the turning point. Even knowing the result I’m still astounded at how well we held on all game to only lose by a point
Yeah if they'd finally broke there it would've been understandable letting a couple of tries in. Credit to them they held onto the very end.

Man, almost a week on and I'm still caught up in the what ifs. Doesn't help that my TikTok algorithm is nothing but Knights and Rugby League ATM.

I honestly believe we got to live one of the most inspiring times in recent sporting history, maybe I'm a little biased because I don't have a viewpoint from the outside looking in. But the belief the team had around them, that built and bubbled every week, was something I've never seen here in Newcastle.

I'm so excited for next season and can't wait for the next few weeks to at least whet my appetite by watching our boys carve it up at the RLWC.

It's a shame we lost and I keep thinking what if we had our full strength team, what if those fluke trys for the roosters didn't come off.

I'm also upset that the season is over as I really enjoyed watching the way we played as opposed to other seasons where I was like thank fark the season is done.

Thing is, he just jogs through. Coasts to the tryline.

I was smack bang in the centre behind the goals where they were running towards in the first half. As the previous tackle is being made, I sensed something was about to happen and told my mate who was there with me "Something's on over here". Then play-the-ball, pass, pass, pass, TRY! Amazing stuff.

In the aftermath of the GF, having been there and since have returned to Perth, I've watched the game replay on TV, and honestly, it's more devastating seeing it on TV than it was being there live. To me anyway. I don't know if it's because on TV you can see how happy the Roosters players were (particularly the punchable DCE's smug face) or whether it was because you see more detail in the game closer up than you do from 100m+ away or what, but it was harder to cop watching the replay on TV.

Apparently it was a set play. Drew it up for Manulelua specifically.

It’s crazy because it really doesn’t look like there’s even a hole there till he waltzes through it.
No doubt a set play. Both Croker and Sharpe pass the ball early, arguably to coax the defence into sliding early expecting the ball to reach the edge quick.

In the end it is defensive error from Wong that leads to the try. He slides too early too hard. You can see DCE hold his position as if to correct Wong on his inside, but it was too late as Wong had committed to sliding preparing for Ponga to receive the ball.

Even Tedesco was out of position.

I haven't watched the replay again, can't do it to myself.

We had a 12 point lead and then end up giving it up because of two fluke trys is what hurts the most. Also the short drop outs really screwed us, I know the boys were gassed but it should have gone long.

There was a lot of luck to our first two tries as well, the penalty on Croker was ridiculous, and how often does the ball bounce perfectly into Ponga’s arms like that.

Plus 99% of the time Nawaqanitawase gets the ball down where he bobbled the ball too.
