packo - our hunger and enthusiasm was great for about 15 minutes today. Almost perfect football up until a Gagai knock on. We had the Raiders down with our foot on their throat when we get a penalty. I believe not one player really wanted to take the 2. They would have preferred to and indeed should have pressed their foot heavily into the throat of the Raiders by going for 6. By taking 2 the Raider's line of thinking goes from were just about gone already to hang on a minute they must still think we're a threat. Much like me in my younger night clubbing days....it only takes a sniff. It's not the attacking ability of the players that worries me. We have match winners from 1 to 7. What worries me is Bennett seems intent on making a sow's ear out of a silk purse.

That's true. When Bennett started doing it with the Dragons, Gidley also started doing it with us. Unless we are tied with not long left on the clock, like against Cronulla last week, and against the Warriors late in the season in 2011, then he will tap.
Would have to disagree with you, how can you blame Bennett, we were completing sets and absolutely dominating, as soon as we start making mistakes we lost our way and that's footy for you, to much defence get tired opposition gets a roll on, bennett demands comsistency at training and in games, he cant help that they cant hold the ball, we were also missing Mullen which is a bigger loss then most of you are expressing, lets face it gids is a utility and that's it, he is incapable of steering a footy side, and Roberts plays off the back of Mullen a lot. We are also desperately missing bedsy, smith and Scott. I really hope we get a roll on once they come back so all you Bennett doubters can be proven wrong, u add them

What are the boys like around newy are they always on the drink? I just know in gc big will couldn't wait to get stuck into the beers, and he's in our leadership group, of course the young olayers will follow, mayb the boys don't take it as seriously as some other teams and are happy to win and celebrate as they do.
Yes, but part of the coaches job is to have the players motivated and switched on so they don't make mistakes and slacken off. We're no better than we were when Bennett first came in, in that respect. We're probably one of the worst sides for his style of football, because the chances of us playing mistake free, disciplined football more than two weeks in a row are astronomically small. That's why I think he has to make changes to his gameplan.
All these players, coaches and facilities since Tinkler came in and we still totally suck ... I dunno if we will ever turn it around. Pretty much lost faith in the whole side at this stage. They might go out and win the next couple, but then they'll get lazy and get smashed again. It's been happening for over a decade and I'm pretty over it.

Considering the Knights have barely lost leading at half time let alone 14 - 0... If Bennett has to drill into them at this day and age + time of the year amd 14-0 up to stay focused than that will do me.

Agree with a lot that you have said, it sucks that you can't ever be really confident in our side as we don't really know what performance we'll throw in, I just think we can't be to critical at moment we still have a lot of rookies that need to learn to be consistent week in week out, they get up for a particular game then can't back it up

Get 4 of the more experienced guys back to replace 4 of them rookies and we are a different side !! I still have faith in bennett
We are still 5th on the ladder because of our very "soft" start to the season. 5th position given our roster and draw at this stage is under achieving.

5 th is very glorified, we ha e 10 points. Bulldogs are in 11th on 8 points, that's the way I see it.
ASJ82 - there's a difference between blaming the coach and being extremely disappointed in him. Players are supposed to improve under him. Teams are supposed to play consistent footy under him. You know the Wayne's type of player thingy and the buy into Wayne's philosophy bit. His outstanding record means nothing to me. I'm interested in what's happened since he's been here. I see one step forward and three back. If he can be patted on the back for winning comps it should be ok for me to disappointed in him.
Ha! If I knew that then I'd give up the exciting world of Reporting Analysis and become a first grade coach! I don't have a clue, virtually the whole side has changed since 2011 and we're still back where we started.
The worrying thing is that a few of those inexperienced young players have been amongst our better performers. Wait a few years and they'll probably have sunk to the level of the rest of the side.

I agree as well, I don't think its possible for us to 'play like wayne wants' I think he hasn't adjusted to the changes in the rules. The lack of offloads (or poor ones) the lack of attack from inside our own half (we have an amazing backline) sometimes you should use it even if you are 30/40 out from your own tryline. I even have no problem getting beaten 22 - 14 yesterday with the amount of defensive players we have injured I could handle it and be grumpy... but 44 it proves we have no really improved a lot...
We have always been an attacking style team, damn we won two comps on it. I can slowly see the storm and there set plays are being pick apart by teams now, i mean they lost to penrith and it was coming trust me they look very off this year (but as always were leading the comp, they just manage to win as they have a winning culture).
Our attack is so pedestrian we can never win a comp off it. That short ball from roberts was nice as was the line ran, but i honestly dont see many tries in us besides the sweep play or some freakish **** from aku/gagai...
I dont think after the manly game and this game that we can just say 'move on' wayne himself said they must be no more thrashings... well i can see some more coming!!!
Post match was good, kurt was cranky wayne was cranky... said tahu might have a hamstring strain...

I can't and wouldn't argue with you on that mate, I have long been a supporter of this club and its hurting me to mate, so much expectation under Wayne and so far theirs not much happening, I just believer we need to get our full roster on the field at once to start improving, we have issues somewhere and I don't know if its purely newcastle culture or not, Wayne will be under alot of pressure if we fail again this season. And that will then test the kind if coach he is. I just think we need some changes, Gidley is not the player we all want him to be, and Roberts is learning, Waddell isn't the answer and buderus is retiring. Our spine isn't capable of matching the good sides.

It hurts me to say this, gidley needs to go away... besides hooker there is no other spot for him... and he can't go back to fullback... what a 200th game to remember!
