Round 9: Knights v Raiders @ Canberra Stadium

Just saw the highlights, gee our left hand defence on the edge was exposed terribly, but that was because no Mullen. He's lethal in defence, and Tahu got pumped by Ferguson.

Houston losing that ball going for anntry really hurt, could have been a two point game then, he's quite a useless player, next on he chopping block I say :P

Its a joke all the monemtum and not even a quarter of a game in zero stratergy and just lets the opposition get their composure back after last week how we didn't learn our lesson is beyond me.

Disgusted in the effort and the second year in I am not buying any of this buying into Bennetts philosphy crap. Stone and smith got much better efforts out of a hell of a lot worse playing groups.

Starting to think McKinnon should be the one dropped when we're back to full strength, or even sooner. He's been taking a ride in FG for too long and should be playing better by now.

He had a shocker today.
 
I cant work out where McKinnon is actually suited...

How can we be an intimidating pack? Were back to where we were last year, the same time we began our 5 match slide... and who have we got next two weeks, Bulldogs and Warriors.

It's a worry, and it wouldn't have been if we didn't blow last weeks game.
 
After reading Alicia blog post about last weeks game and how our rambunctious, boisterous crowd seems to be another thing of the past, I couldn't believe the amount of chanting the Raiders fans put in. Every try they scored was on the back of a massive chant. Now it has been a while since I've been to a game in Newcastle but even longer since I've heard the crowd chant like the crowd I heard in Canberra today, which notched just over 10K.

I believe honestly without that crowd the Raiders would of been limited to Fergo's 3 tries.

The raiders supporters behind me were speaking about how big our pack is, It's big by looking at them but with Mase only notching 65 metres it shows we are not using him correctly.

Tahu seemed a bit ill from the warm up, he was in hunches a few times.

However, everyone thinks there a super coach, and saying players should be dropped. Yes in a logical sense you would think if you don't preform, you get the flick.

I love Uate more than anything, I've been saying that since the start. But this year he isn't the same, I'm not sure if he has little niggling injuries or its just a mirror of the teams performances, Uate gets his space from the Mullen-Gagai quick movements, the games we dont have Gagai and Mullen people on here cry to the gods for him to be put down to reserve grade.

He won't. Because he is a crowd puller. And thats why we signed him on God's top dollar. To pull those people back through the gate to get that rampant crowd back, and when we get it we could field Josh Perry and Kirk Reynoldson as the halves and we would win.

God I miss a good Home crowd.

Our home crowd would be more inclined to boo rather than cheer. Our crowd is virtually silent when we thrash a team, yet if we were on the other end of a win the boos wouldn't stop.

Bro I was driving so wasn't drinking with a great bunch of people but I was atmosphere killer I was that ****ed off. Nearly trashed their house haha.
 
Melbourne losing to both the Raiders AND PENRITH!! makes me feel so much better loool we'll come good, just need our players back and some confidence

I have to finally admit that this is correct.

In fact, I think Bennett's tactics are getting pretty outdated. Sides just won't win with that boring style anymore.

He's changed before - he coached the most entertaining side in the comp in Brisbane back in the 90s ... I think it's time for him to make some big adjustments to how we play. What we're doing is only working half the time ... playing so low risk is actually the riskier option, because we just don't have the error-free, grinding style of play in us. When we don't execute it, we are impotent.
 
It's no secret Wayne has never been the greatest football coach as far as tactics and skills etc. his greatest attribute has been his ability to mentor and motivate.

I think we are in a mini crisis phase, this is Possibly Waynes biggest test of his career, this season, if we aren't playing preliminary finals this season, then I think his reputation could come down a notch.

I dare say he will be having a sleepless night tonight, I have full faith in the guy but.
 
Wayne's coaching is dependent on the opposition losing the match rather than us throwing plenty of football at them to win the game. How many of our players have actually improved under Bennett playing this type of football ? I don't rate Mullen as improved rather a case of playing 5/8 outside a specialist halfback. I've said for ages Bennett's coaching is not moving with the times. He should be capable of modifying his style to suit the strengths of the players rather than his it's my way or the highway approach.

I agree with what you are saying, but we have put the points on and shown enough attack, it's our hunger, enthusiasm and intent that is our problem, the 1 percents.

Uate jogging back and picking up a ball from his own in goal, and getting caught for a goal line drop out is a perfect example, that is what gets me mad.
 
Despite the shyte result how good is McManus these days? He's always been reliable under the high ball & a deceptive speedster in space but the footwork is killing it this year, he's hard to tackle this year.
