After resigning Ike Taylor and Willie Colon, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a much-needed wave of cuts to stay under the new $120 million salary cap. Such cap causalities so far include offensive linemen Max Starks and Flozell Adams as well as receiver Antwaan Randle El. After signing all of their draft picks however, the Steelers will once again be over the cap. More cuts could be on the way but reports are indicating that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will have his contract restructured to help relieve some cap space. Under his current agreement, Roethlisberger’s salary will count for about $16 million against the cap in 2011. How Roethlisberger’s contract will be redone is still uncertain but having his base salary count as a signing bonus and then distributing it over the extent of his contract is a possibility. With more cap wiggle room, the Steelers may be able to avoid cutting more role players such as defensive end Aaron Smith and linebacker Larry Foote. The extra cap space could also help the Steelers begin talks to extend some of their franchise players such as safety Troy Polamalu linebacker LaMarr Woodley. Both Polamalu’s and Woodley’s contracts expire after the 2011 season.
Steelers are appatenly 11mill over the cap though, thoughts on that ?
Knew we'd have to make some moves and we did, so it's a non issue atm really. We've cut a few players and re-structured a few contracts to get us back where we need to be.
Be interesting to see how Philly goes this season. Seems as though they're the next team who's bought into the philosophy of trying to buy a championship. Thing is it's never proven to be an effective formula, just ask the Redskins. They definately look better on paper though, and the Asomugha signing was a good one.
Whos everyone tipping this year???
Rams Rams Rams! (Nothing like blind faith!)
I'm actually interested to watch the Rams play this season, more so to see the development of Sam Bradford though.
He had a good rookie season and showed great potential.

Do they suffer second year syndrome in the NFL too? He exceeded expectations last year, hope he can keep it up!
