Mullen Dally M

I wonder if a side has ever won a premiership without winning four in a row? I would seriously doubt it, you've needed to win at least three just to make it through the finals and win the gf for a long time. It's something we need to overcome asap.

Statsman is on to it !!!

I just went through every Premiership record since 1908 all the way through to 2012 (because we all know how much I love my stats lol) and every team who has won the premiership has at some point in their season gone on a winning streak of at least 4 games in a row...

Some like the great St George side of 1959 go through undefeated...That was also the year they won all 3 grades

The last team (and one of only a few teams in history) to win no more than 4 games in a row during the regular season and win the premiership was the Broncos Premiership winning team of 2006 coached by....

Mr. Wayne Bennett

Haha, that's very interesting about the 2006 Broncos. I remember they didn't seem like premiership winning material for a lot of 2006. Stepped it up in the finals though, after they smashed us rather embarrassingly.

How long did that take you to do, Statsman? :o

15 minutes roughly :)

Broncos record that year was...

Played - 28 (Including Finals)
Won - 17
Lost - 11

They had only won 3 out of their last 8 regular season games then in the first week of the finals they lost 20-4 to St George Illawarra...Which is why you and just about everyone else (including me) never thought they could win the title that year

Strangely enough it was the last time the Knights finished top 4 and we were beaten in the second week of the finals series by the broncos 50-6 :(

I remember that well, it was the first year of this forum, we'd beaten Manly in a classic the week before. Sadly Simpson was injured and Buderus suspended out of that game. Our "reward" for winning in the first week was playing a top four finishing side in Brisbane on neutral territory.

One of our members back then Elise was grappling with whether to to go the game or to a party she'd been invited to. In the end she chose the party, I believe, which ended up being the correct decision!

At least this forum saw one finals victory before the rot set in!!!

I was gutted with that loss :(

That finals "reward" was bulls*** too, I think thats why it hurt so much because we played so well and beat Manly and hopes were high then 1 week later it all came crashing down

I remember Brian Carney having a great season though !!

The forum was anti-Carney.

Some of his defence made Nathan Merritt in origin look like a tackling mastermind.

Great in attack, though.

I was at that 2006 semi-final and stuck it out till the end so I go to see our only points.

Carney once stole Gasnier's underpants in a tackle so he is in my Top 5 fav players ever.
It's a travesty it's not on Youtube.

16 tries that season..

Your right though his defence was bad...But Merritt is in a class of his own as far as Bad defence goes

Does anyone have a copy of old games?
My wife would kill for Knights v Dragons at Marathon Stadium in 2006.
Carney's underpant stealing move is her favourite league moment ever.

I've got it downloaded from nrl.com back in the day.

I'll put it on youtube tonight!!!

Is that from the game that Barrett smashed Carney high but they didn't show a replay, then someone discovered the footage during the week and he got a big suspension?

Merritt at least got someone when he raced up out of the line, even if it wasn't the guy getting the ball!

Anyone remember Carney's tackle against the Roosters on Ryan Cross where he ripped his shorts, and the interview Matty Johns did on the Footy Show that week with Ryan portraying Carney as a man stalker? All in good fun of course but it was a laugh

Wouldn't it be good though to see Mullo get the Dally M, I think Bedsy was the last Newcastle player to do it in '04 so it''d be good to see one of our boys wrap it up.

Better to tackle somebody than nobody I guess

Speaking of Dally M awards...Brian Carney was the 2006 Dally M winger of the year

Yeah, I do remember that one actually!

I'll put that up too.

2006, such good days.

That's the one I was thinking of, but as someone else pointed out it might have actually been Ryan Cross! So Round 22 2006.

Hilarious.

The one I'm thinking of Carney gets a hold of his speedos, proceeds to give him a serious wedgie, then they snap.

You're a legend! The last 15 minutes i've been searching everywhere I can think of on the internet for the video but can't find it anywhere.. That and where Carney was on the panel & they said they had a message from his father & it was Matty, absolutely tore me. Good times
