Jake Clifford

So plans have taken a massive nose dive, no one really has tossed up Pearce’s playing future. Another pec injury, and I don’t think he has been as influential as we’ve needed him to be for quite a while.

What are our options going forward? Thoughts on DCE? Experienced player and a top half on his day, hasn’t played consistent for sometime, but has played in a poor Manly side for a while now.

I think Pearce is one more serious injury from retirement.
 
If we are serious about winning a comp we should go hard for Adam reynolds, has probably the best kicking game in the comp and he knows how to use it to builds pressure.

Imagine him steering the ship with our forward pack ...wishful thinking though as it won't happen.
 
Hey all, been lurking for a while but I finally successfully got the activation email lol.

I think it’s possible the Cows release Clifford IF they get a replacement that they want. In his games under Payten he was definitely just going through the motions and it’s clear they erred in not releasing him. They’re rumoured to want Mbye, Clune, and yeah those bigger off contract names. I think they already have 30 players so they’d have to release someone if they got their man. Jake is the obvious candidate.

I can’t really say I blame Clifford for his attitude btw. They told him he was free to look for another club and he wasn’t in their long term plans. He found another club which wants him and then the Cows backflip on letting him leave early, and I think he’d probably know the reason was that Morgo’s shoulder was very touch and go, and that they’d be left short if he got injured again. So he’s just had to do another pre-season at a club where he feels unwanted, with an unhappy playing group which has no prospect of winning anything, which hasn’t bought in under Payten at all...

Payten has talked a good game about how he is thinking long term about his role, about Taumalolo’s performance over his whole lengthy contract, but they could have released Clifford last year and brought in another promising long-term prospect. Instead Toddy holds onto the guy with the first grade experience. That’s something you do when you’re only thinking about 2021, about keeping yourself in your job by round 25. There’s no long-term benefit in that for North Queensland at all.

Haha cheers mate. I’ve actually been following Clifford’s career with interest for a while and straight up tweeted “SIGN JAKE CLIFFORD” at the club many times last year so I’m extremely on board with the signing. Makes me very inclined to sympathise with him hahaha.

We could certainly do with him now.
 
The cowboys have named ben hampton in the halves. Why wont they release clifford if they arent even using him?
 
Are we banking on Clifford as our saviour, no guarantees he doesn’t look any better than Crossland who would be so much better at 7 with Green at 6 than we have seen. OK good if we get Clifford but is he Mr Fixit.
the problem is that gut reaction doesn’t often work as apposed to a plan.
Our mistake was extending Pearce when we may have had Reynolds and now we have Clifford and Pearce and no Reynolds.
Sure we have injuries, lots of them but let’s get through it, trust those we have, I don’t see Clifford being let go for them to then be in same situation due to injuries
 
No doubt based on his form as a reserve grader for a poor team, let’s wait and see what he has, shown little or nothing so far, I will be happy when he arrives and competes with Crossland for a spot.
