Does anyone know how Jackos preseason has been and how the rehab of his bad ankle has gone. I was concerned at the end of ’23 that he might be considering medical retirement, but I heard he had an operation to sort out some screws/plates around the old injury. I haven’t heard anything since then and have fingers crossed that he will be close to 100% fit this year. I know we have Cogger to cover the halves this year but imo Hastings should be our 7 if available.
According to photos and his own socials I’d say he’s been back full running and plays for past 2 months. Looks fit and well determined.
Can’t say his leg is’t a concern though. All bad injuries are. We’d the kick of not copping a direct hard hit there.

Booze Frothfield put out a story earlier in the week that the Dragons were trying to sign Hastings but Jacko and his agent have rubbished this claim.

He was great for us last year, but it was clear he wasn't 100% and some games he avoided kicking and even running.
After the season it was found that his 2022 injury hadn't been properly fixed and he played with a small fracture all year, which effected him badly some games and not so badly other games.
I think it's very possible we will see a much better and more consistent version of Hastings in 2024 if his injury has been repaired properly this time.

Not his ankle.
All his breaks have been in the fibula, which is the smaller of the two bones of the lower leg, although it probably felt like an ankle sprain to him.
He had it operated on just after the season, and touch wood, he seems to be right on track with his recovery and we've not heard of any complications.
Given the issuse was around the screws from the first op, I'd say they've given him a few xrays to check it out since the last op. I wouldn't expect the same problem.
