Ex-Knights Watch

All too often we hear about Police blatantly lying in Court. This is totally understandable but keeps happening. Our Police Service needs to do much better, it seems there are still way too many Police who will lie when it suits them. This grinds my gears!

The case below involves Tom Starling and as he says what about the people who can’t afford to defend themselves in Court.

Australia has become a Police state. So many laws/rules, and regulations they've taken the fun out of living, and the assholes who enforce those laws have been watching too many Hollywood movies. Thought that for decades, nothing has changed it's become worse.

In what ways has Australia become a police state? We're one of the most liberal countries in the world.

Come on Area51, you laugh, but how about you articulate your opinion properly! Or, maybe the Area51 and alien avatar give you away 😂🤣

Compared to let's say Saudi Arabia then you could lay claim to some justification for your statement. Compared to many western democracy Australia is a fairly conservative country, but more a congested quagmire of laws/by-laws/rules/.

I've lived in 4 continents throughout my years and Australia is the only place where if you see a cop in the rear vision mirror your heart jumps.

I tell my friends ( non-Australians) that the Police can stop you driving, and extract bodily fluids from you to check for drugs and they are in disbelief - only an Australian would think that's totally ok. - it's madness. A nation fixated on traffic violations, speed limits , seat belts, because the Government sees it as a major revenue raising scheme. - it's crazy. You can be fined for leaving your window down in Australia hahaha - it is pathetic.

Same sex marriage ? wow what a **** fight that was.

Smoking weed ? No way.

The list is long. I've not lived in a country with as many laws to break as Australia - it's unique in that way.

Part of the reason why I moved to Bali.

I havent lived there for most of my adult life. Happy to have been born there dont get me wrong, peaceful, plenty of food and water, roof over my head etc, but man I couldnt live there.

My dear grandfather was a really lovely man, heart of gold, an old digger, and what a cracking sense of humor he had. When I think of him I think of his jokes, of laughter and fun. That old man would get torn to shreds in modern day Australia - it lost it's sense of self deprecating fun long ago. Cant tell a joke, or boo entertainment at the footy for fear of offending someone, or being called a misogynist, racist or bigot. Just imagine a land where you are unable to express your dislike for a song and dance , or tell a joke hahaha sounds crazy yeh.

Only in Australia, and maybe Saudi Arabia haha.

Sounds like you need to tighten yr tin hat!

If you poo yr pants every time you see a cop that says more about you than it does Australia being a 'police state'.... but if that fear slows you down and makes you a safer road user, so be it. Deaths and serious injury on Australian roads have decreased significantly since seatbelt laws, speed detection, RBT etc came in during the 70's & 80's. As someone who has lost a family member because of speeding and a mobile phone, Id say yr a dead set **** head If you think those laws are a bad thing.

By "drawing fluids" do you mean that simple swab of saliva from yr mouth? Do you also tell yr OS guests there will be some suspicion that you've taken drugs associated with that test (if yr ever tested that is)? So, Police don't just pull you over to 'draw fluids' for a drug test.

Same sex marriage is 100% legal in Australia and I'd argue, as a nation we're pretty liberal regarding individual rights.

As for Cannabis, it's becoming more and more decriminalised, and alot is done to divert druggies away from the Courts... never heard of anyone going to gaol for using or possessing a small amount of pot!

All developed countries have rules to protect the safety of its citizens. In comparison. Australia is not policed any more than any of them.

Interesting opinion. Happy you are happy with it. Enjoy .

I'd expect nothing less than the reply you gave though. I sure do enjoy living elsewhere with far more liberal views and freedoms.

Enjoy your yearly 2 weeks to the central coast or Bali

oh the keyboard warrior. Always a sign of low IQ . Preface the ad hominem with some form of validity is rather pathetic.

What’s funny about enjoying a holiday? 🤔
enjoyment is full of fun and laughter when I go on holiday. Not so sure about yours ? Outraged perhaps ? sitting around complaining about the locals ? I dont know. Your holidays are not happy? You tell me

You were mocking Defender and I wasn't quite sure why.

Why would I mock a person of such obvious intellect. Thoughtful, considered, and of course polite responses adding great value to discussions. I'm sure he has a great time with lot's of laughter wherever he goes. Lot's of friends no doubt.

We don’t talk about other members like the on here, one of the main rules is to treat others with respect. Please do that.

We like to think of ourselves as a nation of larrikins, but yeah I think we’re a bit of a nation of bullies and tattletales if I’m completely honest. If you have never been embroiled in a really trivial dispute about overhanging plants or neighbourhood noise here, nor had a family member or close friend have to put up with some ridiculous Karen, you’re pretty lucky.

Peaceful Invasion Day protests yesterday were monitored by police helicopters and riot cops with attack dogs, and I’ve seen those dogs used on totally harmless protesters who weren’t really bothering anyone. Those same cops give out high fives to white supremacist, fascist and/or cooker protesters.

I don’t know. It’s not Saudi Arabia, but we could stand to have a bit more freedom.

Respect , a little goes along way . Prob should be a little shown on both sides of any situation . But I for one feel I'm bloody glad I live in Australia !

We need the Police to do their jobs without bias and not beat up people like Tom Starling and lie about it.

We also need the Police to stop looking the other way when their mates commit crimes, this has to stop.

Where I live you hardly ever see the Police, and on the rare occasion you do they certainly dont operate with aggression and dress like a SWAT team.

Weed is also legal

The State does not extract bodily fluids from its citizens

and you can leave your car window down if you want
