2025 Recruitment And Retention

No doubt there is negotiations ongoing everywhere. Pezet is a free agent now so can negotiate and sign anywhere for 2026.

My read is he wants to be playing NRL, and if he could get a loan to the Knights for 2025, he would exend at Melbourme, that way he can get some NRL time at the Knights every week, but hedge his bets with the storm. And why wouldn't he want to remain at the Storm, they are proven premiership winners and would be a no brainer for any player.

But, he wants to play NRL, and his chances of doing that are limited at Melbourne. Sure Melbourne want to keep him why wouldn't they, but Pezet has to think what is in his best interest and sitting behind the current Dally M winner in your spot probably isn't the best plan. Jarome is 30, so likely will play another 3-4 years. Does Pezet want to wait till he is 25 to get a regular gig?

He could sign with us from 2026 for 3, then still sign back with the Storm when Hughes is done.

Kinda off the Pezet train already honestly. Why are we trying to sign a half who is actively seeking a deal to remain at his current club and/or get a loan to play for another club just to p*ss back off again?

A loan would only benefit the Storm, not us. We get used and the Storm get back a more experienced half in return. Reeks.

We dont actually know what his intentions/desires are. The fact that he's negotiating with the Storm doesn't confirm anything beyond his desire to negotiate with all available parties.

Its probably the case he'd prefer the Storm. But nothing's confirmed.

Eels still in for Brailey apparently, how long is he on contract for.

This year could be career defining, I'd suggest after 2 years that were a write off and an average year this year, we should cash in on at least 1 prime year for him. Either that or the Eels can find a player that would suit us for him.

@JOJO82 I've just removed your post ... in particular after seeing this article: https://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/t...r/news-story/e6462c9105908b8bf6b9e794d5906ed7

Let's not discuss the possible reasons for May's release ... we're always careful here with this sort of thing, but that article has got me especially worried lol.

And with them sending Brandon Smith packing it would seem those allegations against May are likely false and Roosters just cleaning out anyone with poor attitudes.

To be honest there’s actually no indication that we’re strongly chasing him now. Just all speculation. A few months back POS was quoted as saying we were interested in him but we have no idea how much we are. Historically we’ve kept potential signings pretty under wraps and they come as a surprise. I wouldn’t be surprised if it randomly comes out that we’ve signed some half we had no idea we were even chasing and lost interest in Pezet a while ago.

I’m a bit “Pezetmistic” that he’s an answer to our prayers.

I have no idea what 2025 looks like for Newcastle, maybe a similar situation as 2024 but I’m already looking forward to 2026 when we will see much bigger changes I think.

Yeah agreed. Pinning all our hopes on someone who might end up being a good First Grader isn’t great business. Surely POS has other options up his sleeve.

The first preference for every young halfback in the world would be starting halfback at the storm.
Their second preference would be starting halfback at any other NRL club.

Top 30 players profiles added to Knights app and website
No Cody Hopwood in top 30 so must be development still this year or just a full time NSW cup type contract

So still only 29 out of 30 spots filled for 2025
That’s not what it says on nrl . com’s top 30 contracts list

Profiles added are
Schiller - wing
Arthur - hooker
McEwen - 2nd row
Annan - centre
Manuleleua - no position listed

I'm surprised by a few of those positions
