2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

The big mistake imo was re-signing Pearce for one year - 2022. If we had that little faith in him, why weren't we exploring options for 2022 a long time ago and looking for his replacement? There were plenty of options if we'd started looking at the beginning of 2021.

Looking at who was available and who was coming off contract, we'd have ended up in the same spot as we're in right now even if he'd stayed for this season. Long term roster planning at this club is abysmal.

Yep that one year signing was a mistake... But hey everyone makes them .

In defence of obi, I feel its been really over looked that pearce lost some respect in the playing group. Not saying this was actually what happened.
But... fitz was off him and close with the group, Pearce wasn't keen on being here any more after the relationship break up. He also lost a step with his age, pissed off management and potentially he wasn't popular in the playing group after the incident. Lastly it looked like Brooks was coming.
Again not saying this is what occurred, but i could definitely believe that it was a decision that had to happen. But im just just looking from the clubs point of view

Any signing above the quality we have is a bonus, Brookes over Clune, Crossland is a likely plus, please note the absolute lack of confidence, but Ponga to 6 requires a f/b and our best option is Hodgson, please note the absolute lack of confidence, signing Garrick would solve a great deal, but please note the lack of confidence.
Best option is Ponga 1, Gamble 6, Brookes 7 with, Clune a C-, Crossland C- and Clifford a C+ as back up but please note the lack of confidence.
To be honest I have a complete lack of confidence in the above, oh me, oh my what a absolute mess we have.
Did I mention my lack of confidence, OH ME, OH MY, 2023, OH ME, OH MY, Future Ooooooohhh Meeeeeee

so if we are to sign Brooks, which is still a big if given what happened this season, how many roster spots does that leave us? Do we even have a spot for Garrick if that's the way we are heading

At the time I said to release Pearce, because why would we want a player here that does not want to be here?

And say we kept Pearce, can we say this season would have been markedly better? Is Pearce alone going to take us from 2nd last to 8th?

And if we landed at 8th again, bundled out of the finals in the first week are we rating that a pass again are we? With Pearce heading out of the door at the end of that year anyway.

I just don't see the point in having kept Pearce for this outcome.

Unfortunately we were not able to attract a replacement and this was a poor year, likely would have been a poor year anyway even with Pearce.

In answer to 1 of your questions yes 8th is always a pass mark. Not a A plus but always a C.

I can accept this if, in return, we get the hilarity of Brodie Croft signing for Wests as his replacement.

Your move, reality.

Watch him tonight... yuck..
I actually missed the game. I tipped Parra to win though. Ok, he had an off night, but you can't take away the turn around the raiders had from the start of the season when he was not playing. But they are still not one of the top tier teams at this stage.

I honest

I honestly think we don't enough in the cap for both.
