2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I've always thought Barnett was better, but obviously similar players as you say.
Brown was just playing in a non-train wreck team.

Barnett hit harder in his prime. My favourite Nathan Brown moment was when he cheap shot shoulder barged Shaun Blore in the back when the two teams were in a bit of a fracas - and Blore barely moved an inch hahaha.

Forever linked to one another those two.

Believe they may have been the first guys to be sin binned from the new no punching rules?

Brown is a shell of what he was a few years ago, definitely not someone we should be targeting.

Barnett was decent when he got here and then just never really improved.

And now he’s off to the train wreck Warriors to “take his game to the next level”
the $$$$ obviously didn’t hurt that decision, but I don’t really blame him I would do the same given the same offer.
I just wish players would be more honest and actually say why they are changing clubs -more money, don’t like the club, coach , teammates etc

Just watched the Panthers destroy the Warriors. Young Reece Walsh was a class above the rest of his team. Is he signed up for a few years. If Ponga were to go to 6 he would be a good 1. Can't be happy getting beaten each week at the Warriors. (Come and get best most weeks with us 😉).

I hate it that we have so many Kiwi's look good in our lower grades, and spend a lot of money developing them, and they all leave as soon as a big city club makes them an offer.
I get it that they have no reason to be loyal to Newcastle, and part of coming to Australia would be to experience big city life, but just watching about 20 guys who look like quality recruits for 3 or 4 years just grab the first ticket out of town is very disheartening.
Having said that, I think our entire under 19s forward pack this year have more potential than Jirah, who I think is a fringe firstgrader at best.

Maybe they would stay if we could develop lower grade players in to NRL players with any regularity. I don't blame that at all.

The amount of juniors/youth we go through and bring in to the NRL only to effectively end their career isn't very encouraging.

No no, we must blame New Zealanders for everything 😒

Blaming Jirah for the club not wanting him is a bit weird.?

The only kiwi player we've lost who was any good is tapine, and he went to a town smaller than newie (and will ikely rip us a new one this afternoon)

Luke Brooks getting dropped this week.
If we end up with him I'll be very disappointed.
I honestly think Clifford is better.

But I'll happily take Hastings.

Brooks isn’t liked on here but bottom line is he is better than any other available half including Clune, like Knights things aren’t good at Tigers, with little or no options he could be our best option, we could do worse and if the price is right who knows. My gut says get him

Hastings best option... and somewhat realistic. Surely the club isn't stupid enough to sign Brooks.
