2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

"Knights’ moves for Hastings
We’re hearing Newcastle have had discussions about making a play for Jackson Hastings next year.

Hastings’ management share a close relationship with Knights recruitment manager Clint Zammit. The Knights made a play for Luke Brooks last summer, but the halfback wasn’t granted a release from the Tigers.

It will be interesting to see what the new Tigers coach thinks of Hastings. He’s become somewhat of a cult hero among the Tigers fans but, as we know, he’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

He’s on around $375,000 this year, but that increases to about $500,000 for the final season of his two-year contract"

Will the Tigers let him go before August 1?

They'd be stupid to let him go at all...

Yeah I'd be pretty surprised if they let him go before his contract ends. It would have to be him agitating hard for a release.

He had a very close connection with Madge don’t think he’ll be as willing to stay under a new coach
He'd be going somewhere else under a new coach , either way it would be a new coach to him.
Nathan Brown has been told he can leave , 2 years ago he was playing good footy but i haven't really taken any notice of him since then ... Would we be interested he was a fire brand hows he going now .

There’s a reason you haven’t noticed him. He’s sh*t. We don’t need him.

I'm not overly fussed about Momoisea to be honest, has all the tools as an athlete but hasn't really done much of note in first grade or even reserves. Eels have done a good job getting the best out of forwards recently so it's probably a good career decision for him.

As a prop Croker and Thompson have leapfrogged him since the beginning of the year + Elliot/Hetherington are inbound.

As an edge Jack Johns has outplayed him in reserves and even Jones has done more in firsts as well.

I'd even go as far as saying he's looked really bad when asked to step into firsts

Brown is cooked. Has hit a wall, badly.

Was overrated in the first place anyway, cos he’s white and gives off a vibe of trying really, really hard, even though he’s always secretly been kind of a cat and doesn’t impact the game much. Parramatta’s Mitch Barnett.

You can see Jirah’s potential, especially in reserves where he’s physically looked a class above, but Melbourne don’t just let a young forward in their system with his physical attributes walk unless there’s a reason.

Personally I think we should try to sign Jeyden Berrell to replace him. I think we need a second genuine specialist 9 in the top 30 and he’s easily the best option.

I hate it that we have so many Kiwi's look good in our lower grades, and spend a lot of money developing them, and they all leave as soon as a big city club makes them an offer.
I get it that they have no reason to be loyal to Newcastle, and part of coming to Australia would be to experience big city life, but just watching about 20 guys who look like quality recruits for 3 or 4 years just grab the first ticket out of town is very disheartening.
Having said that, I think our entire under 19s forward pack this year have more potential than Jirah, who I think is a fringe firstgrader at best.
