2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Is that how it even works though? I thought transfer fees aren't counted on the cap, so assumably you can't use that to sign a player either. Wouldn't it just be money to the club, which is meaningless to us when it comes to winning games.
Surely we can use transfer fees to sign other payers otherwise they are basically useless to teams losing good players.

Dom's probably on $150k at the moment for this year, you won't even half of one of them under the cap for that much so how is a transfer fee going to help?
im privvy to as much knowledge on the cap as you, its all guess work. if its a viable option it should be explored. theres no reason we couldnt get the roosters to pay X amount of kpps salary as a swap deal is there?

Theoretically you can use it to pay a transfer fee for a new signing but it doesn't give you any extra cap space to work with. That's why it's much more common in Super League where most clubs are flat out just trying to stay afloat.

I would not accept a 150K transfer fee for Dom as he is worth much more than that. If the Rorters will not pay more than 150K, fine we’ll keep him for the year.

This might shock you, but a week and a half out from the season most competent teams are planning on trying to win some games by keeping their good players, not letting them go for some cash.

A transfer fee doesn't give us extra cap space, it just means Wests has a better bottom line.
Never said it had an impact on our salary cap.

On ya Vossy.

“What would be the chances of the Roosters releasing one of their marquee players to a rival a week out from the start of the season?,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“Wouldn’t it be nice if the Knights were to sign Joey Manu and they requested an immediate release.

Sums it up.

Knights will do something dumb, they released Ramien to the Sharks without any player swap and then give away a young gun frontrower to the same club a few years later to get miller released.
We showed them😀

It’s just not how Parr operates. Remember this is the guy who wouldn’t give us KP in 2017 & held onto Clifford until he had a replacement (who has turned out to be a much better player), even though Jake was playing QCup for most of that time. If they want him, they need to make a serious win-win offer.

Opening negotiations at Nat (one of their best players last year, 100+ games of experience, would walk into our starting side) or Egan Butcher (prospect who’s been highly touted for a while now, but also has a decent amount of first grade experience & knows what it’s all about now, would also walk into our side) tells you all you need to know. Dom isn’t going anywhere for less than what is for us equivalent or greater value.

A few rounds of Jaxson Paulo or Corey Allan on the wing in a season where the Chooks would be thinking they’re ready to make a real run at the title, and I reckon they might come to the bargaining table. Assuming a decent run with injuries, they will have ample forward depth. The outside backs are really the only spot in the roster where it’s slim pickings beyond their elite starters (Manu, Suaalii, Tupou).

But the RLPA did not get involved when we wanted Ponga released early.
there is a big difference between Tapine and Ponga

Ponga wasn't a regular in first grade at the time and wasn't in their top 17

Tapine was in our top 17 but was told he is playing reserve grade for the season cause he signed for Canberra. Thats why the RLPA got involved in Tapine's case

Just add listen to that part. Vossy is right. If the Rooster aren't willing to part ways with one of there players, Fark OFF! And we aren't going to accept a transfer fee. Surely the club won't do that. And he plays out the year on the wing. If his form is poor, or at the back-end if aren't making finals then drop him, otherwise he is, BY FAR our best option on the wing.
