2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

What promising juniors?

Its a myth that doesn't work hardly any of them go on to be decent these days
You clearly need to hop online and watch the juniors on the weekend. U18’s to Jflegg have some wonderful talent coming through, best I’ve seen in a long time.

Thinking your negativity needs to get out to an oval and watch what is coming through

I might be in the minority but glad to see Parr taking a strategic view to the cap and setting a ceiling on how much he will pay for a winger. Young is very talented but still only has one full year of nrl footy under his belt and we should not have been out laying $500-$600k for a winger.

We don’t have the resources of the roosters so have to be smarter about maximising our cap.
I'm not disagreeing that the price might have been too high for Young - think it's a tough call.

But the fact we don't have the resources of the top clubs means we need to lean more towards betting on variance - in the status quo we're perennially fighting for the 8 and not contending for the premiership. We need some high risk calls to pay off (i.e. have the GOAT get born in Cessnock).

To me, Dom is one of those high risk calls - he has the physical potential to be the best centre in the game. It's of course unlikely that happens just mathematically. But we need to strike some lottery tickets if we're actually going to win a comp. 'Smart', 'sensible', conservative recruitment will increase our chances of coming 10th instead of 17th. It won't get us to 1st in a competition with other teams that have significant structural advantages.

But we pay 600k for Dom, he pulls a hammy , Ponga has his inevitable injury . We could have 2 million dollars sitting on the sideline . Already struggle with lack of depth!

i get your want to be competing for premierships, its what we all want but you have to have a solid base to start with otherwise you get one or two years of competing then you crash back down. Sounds familiar doesn't it

We are coming from such a low point we are better served with 'Smart', 'sensible', conservative recruitment and increasing our chances of coming 11th - 9th for a couple of years.

We then become a club players are willing to come to as it wont ruin their career by doing so and they won't be coming for a pension. Then you can swing for the fences

Roosters have asked for young to be released and Knights have requested Nat butcher as a trade according to the tele. Roosters scrabbling to find a player to trade and pay a transfer fee.
I’d be happy with that.

I would be good to get rid of Dom now!

If we get anyone, it'll be similar to the Miller/Bradbury swap. We'll get some junior. Neither Butcher will want to come here I'm guessing.
