2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I

l”ll stand by it. Marzhew has a better running game but is prone to more defensive errors in general defense. Not sure if you watched but as soon as England played a decent team they found young out. Short kick behind him to make him turn slowly and attacking bombs.

If you swap them sides and have young defending outside fitz ponga and best he’d be a laughing stock in defense

Agree with you here on some points.....the thing d lacks is he isn't that great defensively and the fact he takes an age to turn around and chase.

If he wanted to play centre. He has a right hand carry and I don’t think he will replace Manu on the right anytime soon.
Most likely manager talk to get more money. JAC was telling everyone he wanted to play fullback when he was off contract at the Storm.
I reckon Keary will retire due to concussion, Manu will move the 5/8 and Young will play right centre. Its just whether it happens in 2024 or 2025

I might be in the minority but glad to see Parr taking a strategic view to the cap and setting a ceiling on how much he will pay for a winger. Young is very talented but still only has one full year of nrl footy under his belt and we should not have been out laying $500-$600k for a winger.

We don’t have the resources of the roosters so have to be smarter about maximising our cap.

Aku Uate is one of my favourite ever Knights, but yeah I gotta say paying him over 10% of the cap or however much it was, was not the smartest thing we’ve ever done.

On Young, i don't blame the guy for leaving. He obviously believes he can be a better player and he has a huge drive to get the best out of himself. Something most of the rest of our squad don't have. They are happy with mediocracy, where Dom has a willingness to strive to be the best he can be.

Look what happened to Brownie, he got us competitive again and we became a club players were willing to come to, then the guys who were happy with mediocracy got their way and Brownie got sacked. Its been a downhill spiral since then with performances, contracts and squad depth.

If Dom looked at us and compared our professionalism to the Roosters professionalism its a no brainer why he left. If you were in his situation you'd leave as well. So people on here need to stop bagging the bloke. Sure you can and should be disappointed he left, but the disappointment should be directed at the club, not Dom.

We are in for a long rebuild and change in club culture. Its what Parr is here to do, its just a bigger mess then we all knew by the sounds of things

There’s no take about the Knights which perplexes me more than Browny trutherism.

If he’s such a good coach, why does every team he coaches instantly get better when he’s replaced by someone else?

In all honesty majority on here would do the same thing
Possibly. But unlike the players we love the club and personally I would rather have played for newcastle on minimum wage then go to any other team.

While Joey is the GOAT some of my favourite players were Billy Peden, chief, mark sargent, steve Simpson and kurt gidley some of these blokes may not have been the most skillfull but watching them play the way they did how could you not want to pull on the red and blue.

Sorry I meant in his position , 21 years old , from from the other side of the world . No real commitment to Newcastle . Yeah we have to keep our promising juniors . Make them want to stick around

Ok yes fair call id be going to the highest bidder with the best chance to win a premiership.

Gotta be optimistic that we putting the processes in place to achieve. As has been stated we will never compete with likes of the roosters .

What promising juniors?

Its a myth that doesn't work hardly any of them go on to be decent these days
Surely that has to be a coaching and or culture issue.

As Sarge said hopefully processes are being to fix this and with a change of head coach we will have enough capable coaches.
