2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

It has been clear for a long time that Ponga plays like a 6.
Why didn't we recruit a good fullback a long time ago?

Instead we are getting a 30 year old 7 game player on a three year deal and losing a junior.

I put these issues mostly on O'Brien.
As I do our one out crap attract and very average defense.

Where'd you get he has 6 games to save his job from?

So, Ponga is only moving to 6 to save AOB's skin... and you see this as an issue?

I'm assuming you mean AOB thinks the Knights will be a better team with Ponga at 6?
Don't we all want the Knights to be a better team? Isn't it his job to put the right players in the right positions, so they run out each week with the best side they can?
Where’d I get the six weeks from? Maybe from the coach himself.

And no it’s not the coaches job to put the right players on the park according to some on here. It’s the coaches job to do the best with what the Recruitment Manager gives him & keep his mouth shut apparently.

That's not from the coach himself.... that's from Buzz Rothfield. Do you trust him as a reliable journo?

It’s not ideal to lose a promising young forward but considering they were looking for a “replacement” at the start of the discussions I’m glad we didn’t fold and give up an up and coming outside back.

While we're talking about the telegraph, apparently Dom Young has toured the Bulldogs facilities and Gould is very keen on him.

On the subject of recruitment managers and coaches blah blah, from a trusted source just to let you all know what a basket case club we are , Knowles didn't want to leave, he was thrown under the bus by Gardiner, out of his league Phil wanted Klemmer off the books and wanted him sacked via HR. Zammit is also a cancer he white anted Brennan and made his job untenable, he is also untouchable because he is so far up Gardiner you can only see his feet hanging out.

Lastly I would be surprised if Parr sees the year out he couldn't believe how big a **** show he walked into

Did you notice the bit in inverted commas where he agreed 100%, that was the bit that O’Brien said.

Seems there’s a heap of experts on here that know more than the actual journalists & know when Trent Robinson & Nick Politis are lying.

Not sure why all these experts are wasting their time on this forum surely they could do a better than the actual coaches & journalists with all their expertise.

Yea
I never made that claim. Go back and read the posts. You do you 😆
Yeah sorry, just like me you didn’t make the claim about Politis. You were the one who contradicted yourself by saying Recruitment Managers were solely responsible for rosters then in the same breath made the claim that the General Manager at the Dogs was responsible for their roster. Sorry, easy mistake though.

LOL. How pathetic. Apology accepted though.

The coaches have to be some part they got to sell there plan to the player but ultimately the recruitment manager has final say cause he dictates the terms of contract amount of the contract and the length of the contract cause it's his salary cap to sort out and his list management that keeps him in the job
Nrl has increasingly become more like the nfl

General manager and recruitment teams deal with retention and recruitment. Recruitment teams would generally involve the head coach!

In all honesty all teams would be setup differently and would work differently
So your all guessing hahah

Yes, more like abysmal defence that has only got worse. Adam O’Brien came here with a strong defensive reputation, formerly working with 2 of the best defensive oriented teams in the NRL. What happened?

I’m trying to think what coach I was watching an interview with … it might have been Daniel Anderson talking about his time with Parramatta, so 2009-ish … and he was saying that even back then he realised the job had become way too big for a head coach to even know what was happening with the juniors at his club, let alone deal with recruitment, etc.

So I’m sure the coaches would say what areas they want etc, but to think they even have the time to run recruitment along with actually getting the side to perform on the field, is a bit unrealistic, I think.

Edit: actually I think it was Brian Smith taking about his time at the Roosters around 2010.

If Dom goes he goes. You cant force the lad to stay and if he wants to move to a Sydney club, given the history of this club any advisor of his would be saying its a good move.

This stuff about the club doesn't surprise me in the slightest. You have the faces of the club in O'Brien and Gardiner who come across as entitled and arrogant.
This stuff rubs off to the playing group and they think their better than they are.

Eg, O'Brien,
According to the report, the coach hurled some obscene language at the patron, and intervening security guards stepped in.

“The coach was arrogant and belligerent and even used the old, ‘Don’t you know who I am?’ line when we escorted him out of the men’s room and told him to cool it,” a security employee told Nine.

“For a guy who is supposed to be a leader of young men, it was very poor form.”

Don’t you know who he is? He’s coached sides to four grand finals!!!

I always snigger when I hear the one about Zammit "discovering" Taumalolo. Always reminds me of the Seinfeld conversation about favourite explorers.

Jerry: "I like Magellan! Come on, around the world! Who do you like?"
George: "I like De Soto"
Jerry (quizically): "De Soto? What did he do?"
George: "He discovered the Mississippi!"
Jerry (sarcastically): "Oh, like they wouldn't have found that anyway"
