2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

I think I prefer the idea of Miller at 5/8 and ponga at fullback tbh...
Not a chance we have not half’s firing forever ponga has the skill set to open this up and tbh Hastings is the big solid half that is required next to him I like
Do you guys reckon miller is a good fullback?
yep I love anything new for our team we cannot run around like our previous years we have brand new spin bigger outside backs the middle will sort it self out no problem there great looking depth let’s rip in

At that time, a 20 year old Dom Young, with less than 12 months of form under his belt, without notoriety, was one injury away from being worth no more than his current deal. If the club offered him a big upgrade and extension at that time he and his manager would've been foolish to wait. He wasn't Suaalii. He was a guy who's form was being questioned week in week out - as in, no one knew if it was going to be permanent. In retrospect, its obvious that he is worth every dollar he is chasing.

It was obviously a considered gamble from the club. It could've paid off for them. But it didn't.
I was thinking that. I reckon suaalli and even Coates are a tad ahead of young in terms of young wingers. If I was going to pay 700k for someone is rather it be suallii. Would be ok paying 500k for young with new salary cap.

Suaalli is better than Dom in the air, they are pretty equal in gaining yardage but Dom has the speed. Two great young wingers. Coates on the other hand is very overrated imo.

He looks fast and elusive and has a nice short pass.
Shark fans say he lets a lot of high balls bounce before catching.

I haven't seen too much of him so I'll save my verdict for after round 8.
He let's high kicks bounce? I thought the idea was to catch them and then land on your back like an upturned turtle allowing the opposition to set upon you before you can make any ground. That's how elite fullback of the last few years does it!

Suaalii is definitely a better prospect. Dom Young is just an astounding athlete.

The comparison I make is narrow and purpose specific.

I guess that's the point I was trying to make. 500k for a good winger i.e. young Is ok. Any more then that and I would be wanting someone like suaalu who is outstanding and has capacity to play other positions i.e. fullback too.

Like I hope we don't end up paying him 800k.

I was having a look on zerotackle at the suggested $$$ some of our players are on. We don't seem to be backending deals (i.e. Brailey on 550, 550, 550 not 400, 550, 700. Even players like dsaf (700k) and ponga (1.1 mil) seem to have the same value each year. If true, that should leave us in a far better space as salary cap grows.

Have heard Bradman Best could be the player going to the Sharks. Could've been a throwaway comment though - guess we'll know soon enough!

I suppose it would help our salary cap position - Best would be on triple what Miller is on and we'd get enough change to upgrade Dom.

We all saw what Best is capable of given anything approaching the right circumstances. The idea that we'd let him go for any reason is idiotic. Swapping him for a 29 year old fill-in fullback an astonishingly poor trade.

Freeing cash up for Dom can be achieved over the next 12 months. We don't need to rush into letting go of our best junior back prospect since Uate
