2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

It just sounds like paper talk to me about the Knights being interested. We need a fullback for 2023.

Seriously do these so called journalists just lay in bed thinking **** up to chuck in an article.

Has there been any indications, murmurs or rumblings of RTS being interested in us or us interested in him?
Well he went over the play the union World Cup, and that’s next year, so it seems pretty unlikely to me that he’d give up when it’s so close. Unless he’s been told he won’t make the squad under any circumstances, but that doesn’t seem like it’d happen.

Ok. So now the NRL Salary Cap is close to finalised. I find myself changing opinion on Marty Taupau. Don;t know why, but for the need of experience and hoping on location change makes his destructive again. Need forward depth over waiting for someone to come off contract.

If its cheap. Im good, 300k for 1 year. Dunno if he'll move his family for one year though, fairly disruptive to young kids

There is no downside to Taupau. 200 FG games. Has been marquee until only the last few years. Even if he arrives at Newcastle the exact player he was last season he'll still find a spot on our bench. At worst, he'll cover a spot that we'll need covered at some point. $300k is what we paid Hunt to play NSW last season.

I think so. Likes of Bradbury and and Bryan need another off season before they would be definite for full time first grade spots. Plus you need experience mixed with the youth. Kinda hoping it happens now.

I must be the only one who looks at recent photos of Taupau and thinks he's aged 10 years in the last 2 and probably has a medical issue or something.
every time I saw him last year I thought he's doing his best, but getting owned by kids who will never be half the player he was.

Idk I really don’t think nrl players are hard done by lol. I’d kill to get the opportunity to play professionally. 120k minimum and 8 weeks holiday per year for a fringe player is a bloody fantastic in my book.

Sure it is, but not every player makes it rich and earns big dollars. That player earning 120k minimum is still putting his body on the line and getting injuries, especially in the red and blue. By the end of a career say, 13 years of 120 - 200k per year and your left with long standing injuries and just a worn body, you have the rest of your life to live still.

I don't begrudge the players getting their fair share of the revenue the game generates. Plus fringe players have the least job security and could be out of the NRL and playing bush footy real fast.
