2022 Jersey Flegg

Cal Burgess is in at prop for Paul Bryan according to the team list.
I'd be surprised if he actually starts. Cal is more a second row, so they'll probably start Johannsson or Bradbury

26 - 0 - 18 minutes to go
  • Liam Sutton 9'
  • Harry Croker 30'
  • Ethan Ferguson 40'
  • James Johnson 50'

Knights won 26 - 12
We temporarily go back to equal 1st on the table, but the Roosters play last placed Souths tomorrow, so they'll all have to come down with covid to lose that.

That’s a helluva win. Penrith we’re on a roll up the ladder. Unsure if the had some players out.

Bailey Hodgson had an interesting first game in about a year.
Firstly, he has worked on a long, flat pass like Ponga. I think I only saw it right to left, but it was long and flat and he found his target. The winger should have scored off one 3 man cutout pass, but he was held up over the line.
He talks a lot at fullback, and I hope the other guys have worked with him at training, because he could have been talking swhaili for all I could understand.
It was a funny day for high balls. It seemed calm at ground level, but both sides struggled with swirling high balls floating all over the place. Only 1 got away from Hodgson, but several times he looked like he was running around in circles trying to get under them. On the other hand, Sutton tortured their fullback and wingers and they dropped it 5 or 6 times.
As in reserve grade, he took a lot of tackling. He made one run that went on for about 20 metres without a line break, just wrestling his way down field. On another occasion a big forward lined him up for a big hit and got him as good as he could, but Hodgson barely blinked an eye as the guy bounced off him like he'd run into a wall.
All that sounds positive, but I've still not seen him make a line break, go for a good run in open space, or score a try.
I half think Davy Armstrong would have ripped the doggies apart today with his elusive gap running, and we might have been better off with him.

I was there today and was very impressed with the performance of Davy Armstrong in NSW Cup. The ground wax very spongey and curtailed his speed and footwork, however he was still threatening, and along with Dylan Lucas, were the go-to players in attack.

I agree with your comments on Hodgson and personally believe that Armstrong looks a better prospect at this stage (injuries haven’t helped Hodgson’s development since arriving at the club). Armstrong is a future NRL player, and after a full season next year in Cup and physical development, he should be close to first grade in 2024.

If Davy Armstrong didn't look like a string bean who would blow away in a strong wind, he'd be the most exciting prospect on our books this year.

One thing about the Flegg game yesterday, Canterbury went ahead of us by scoring 3 easy tries either side of halftime. Our right side defence just let them through so easily that a woman in the stands near me was saying "oh no, not again" every time the ball went that side. I think the problem was that Kurt Donoughue is not a centre and was totally at sea in defence. they eventually hooked Kurt and moved Harry Croker to the centres, and Harry fixed the problem immediately and also looked fantastic in attack. I saw they had Harry at centre in a few games this year, and he is not just a fill-in. It looked to me that he's as good at centre as he is at second row.

Slight physique hasn’t affected Jayden Campbell’s transition into first grade. There isn’t much of Will Kennedy either.

The thing that impressed me most yesterday with Armstrong’s game was his toughness and bravery under the high ball and putting his body on the line in cover defence.

It is not the size of the Tiger in the fight but the size of the fight in the Tiger.
