2022 Jersey Flegg

Slight physique hasn’t affected Jayden Campbell’s transition into first grade. There isn’t much of Will Kennedy either.

The thing that impressed me most yesterday with Armstrong’s game was his toughness and bravery under the high ball and putting his body on the line in cover defence.

It is not the size of the Tiger in the fight but the size of the fight in the Tiger.
Campbell has the discreet advantage of being the son of one of the most talented footballers of the last generation.

He also happens to be the lightest footballer to grace first grade in this era and put on rep quality performances more often than not. I'd love to be able to think that other footballers are capable of doing the same.

A lack of size has also not diminished the career of Papenhuyzen. Speed is the gift that these players possess and allows them to play the game around 80 kilo and excel.

Jersey Flegg V Cronulla

1. Fletcher Sharpe
2. Ethan Ferguson
3. Harry Croker
4. James Johnson
5. Keanu Wainohu-Kemp
6. Riley Jones
7. Liam Sutton
8. Max Bradbury
9. Lachlan O'Brien
10. Paul Bryan
11. Oryn Keeley
12. Tom Cant
13. Kobe Rugless

Interchange:

14. Ethan Campbell
15. Lachlan Williams
16. Tevita Toloi
17. Noah Johannssen

Harry Croker was very impressive in the centres when he was moved there last game. He not only defended really well, but also went close to getting 2 try assists - 1 I thought was a fair try and the ref disagreed, and the other the winger dropped a pass with the line wide open.

Mitch Henderson was on the bench last game and I don't think he got on the field, which is weird because Sutton is clearly playing with a lower back issue. He really looks to be in pain when he gets tackled or has to tackle someone else. Both Henderson and Noah Ryan are not named in any side, and Sutton is playing injured - what's that about?

Rugless will add a lot of energy. He reminds me of Connor Watson, only really angry, not happy like Connor.

Noah Johannssen looked huge the other day. If the Johannssen brothers get any bigger they'll be close to the size of the Saifiti's.

Don't like to run down young guys, but not a fan of Keanu Wainohu-Kemp, the big Kiwi reminds me of that big Fijian we had in Flegg a few years ago who couldn't hold the ball when there was any pressure on him.

Rumour has it Noah Ryan has signed a 2 year deal with the Canberra Raiders. Personally i think it’s very disappointing, i believe he’s the reason flegg climbed to top end of table he’s provided in crucial times. Hope it all works out for him if true..

That would be a great opportunity for him.
I hope the reason Henderson suddenly seems on the outer isn't that he has signed elsewhere too.
Sutton looks to have a lot of natural gifts - looks about 6'3", fast as any winger, and his kicking and passing game is looking good now too - but I'd still like to keep them all to see who turns out being the best.

That shouldn't be happening

Haven't seen too much of Noah Ryan so can't comment on him but hope we don't lose Henderson as I think he looks promising from what I've seen.

For a club who relies on its Juniors to produce foundational success we sure have a habit of letting the few FGrs we do produce get poached by other clubs.

I still can't get over the 'Latrell Mitchell had a bad attitude'. He was 16 fam 😂

Frankly, the Raiders have a better strike rate with the Knights juniors than the Knights. And they only get to pick one at a time and still manage to make more accurate selections than we do.

Of all the backrowers we kept, we lose Hudson-Young. Of all the hookers we kept, we lose Tommy Starling.

Leaves me feeling that if they've been poached it's for a reason we'll end up regretting.

Noah Ryan played 7 games of Flegg as starting halfback in all of them. We won 6 of them and lost the other one 6-8. We went from about 6th to equal 1st while he was halfback. Since then he has been 18th man in reserves in a few games and got his first start as halfback last week. We lost a close game against 4th placed Bulldogs.
I haven't seen any of Ryan's games live, but his highlights have looked good and I saw a fair amount of him in Mathews and Ball in the past and I've always rated him.

Billy, who in your opinion at the club would bare most responsibility for the loss of good juniors?

Noah Ryan being a fairly irresponsible prospect to lose considering how poor the clubs current options are.

The big names we've lost recently - Jock Madden and Jonah Pezet - were both given development contracts to lure them away - and we have offered development contracts to Garrett Smith, Krys Mapapalangi etc to lure them here.
Even players like Ben Talty got a development contract at Parra and Brock Gardner at Souths.
Anyway - all the good juniors seem to get development spots somewhere, and we use ours to poach guys from somewhere else, and lose guys to other clubs.
Noah Ryan has actually been a bit on the outer in lower grades. He's played a fair amount of Johns and Daley cups as well as Mathews and Ball at different times. I've even seen his name pop up as playing wing in the real NRL.
This year he seems to have had a growth spurt and is quite big for a half now. He didn't get a run in Flegg till about round 4 and just went really well when he got a shot. I'm pretty sure he's young enough to play Flegg again next year.

Only change from the named side is Kurt Donoghoe in 24 in for Fletcher Sharpe at fullback.

I notice ex-knight Trentham Petersen is on the bench for Cronulla.
I think Trentham has made the same switch as Travis Petersen - from centre to second row.
Travis had a big growth spurt and looked huge in our Ball side. A pity he isn't playing in this game. Brother against brother would be fun.

Knights 0 - 4 Sharks after 13 minutes

I notice the Sharks started Trentham Petersen at 5/8. I don't know when he moved to the Sharks, but I think he did some pre-season with us, so good move for the Sharks.

Lost 12 - 16.

Max Bradbury came on at 57 minutes and we scored at 58 and 63 minutes.

I didn't see the game, but I've seen Max Bradbury go into berserker mode for 15 minutes in other games, and he can turn a game in the blink of an eye.
