I really don't want Stone or Brennan, Brennan if it's a two horse race but I'd only take Tim Sheens out of the coaches in the poll, Stone blew it for me with the persistence with Ciraldo and his repetitive "there are a few things we need to work on" speech after a solid loss.
 
What's his record, about four or five finals series in the last 17 or so years of his coaching career? :o
 
Well I see what you guys mean, basically a coach that gets up em and pushes his players like a Bellamy, Hasler or Toovey is what I'm getting at and I cannot see a newbie or Stone doing that.
 
Anyone catch Kidleys comments on NBN news tonight. Asked about Stoney and did his best to complement Stoney without endorsing him, which is surprising consider the glowing endorsement he gave him on triple m. I get the feeling for all the talk Stone I will not get the job, which I hope is true as the club needs to move forward and I don't think we can do that under Stoney.
 
I'm at the point where I don't really mind who gets appointed, apart from Ricky Stuart, I just want SOMEONE to be appointed and to get the rest of our roster ready and prepare the team for 2015.
 
I'm still sticking by Stone. He has stuck by the club despite being dropped from position of head coach and all the off field drama. He has stuck by us so now it's the Knights turn to return the favour.

Not having a go at you mate but that's exactly the attitude we don't need, that's the old Newcastle mediocre attitude we need the best guy who can attract players and win premierships not the guy who has hung around to be loyal .....

If we could attract a quality coach then sure, but who can we attract, Brennan? Sandercock? Sure people want a fresh start but those guys aren't even an upgrade over Stone in my opinion. If we can somehow get Daniel Anderson here for example I would be fine with but if it's a two horse race between Stone and Brennan I would choose Stone any day of the week.
 
Eels general manager of football Daniel Anderson eyes off Newcastle coaching job

FORMER New Zealand Warriors and Parramatta coach Daniel Anderson has discussed applying for the vacant Newcastle Knights coaching position.

The possible move though could land Anderson in big trouble at Parramatta, where he is the club’s general manager of football.The Daily Telegraph has been told Anderson is among the final coaching candidates to replace Wayne Bennett at the Knights.

Others candidates include Brett Kimmorley, Garth Brennan, Terry Matterson and Rick Stone.

Parramatta officials though are upset that Anderson has been linked to Newcastle.

Privately, Parramatta claim Anderson knows the Eels’ organisation inside-out in regards to player recruitment, salary cap and finances.

If Anderson was in fact successful at Newcastle, he would be terminated immediately at Parramatta.

It is understood Parramatta officials will meet to discuss the situation in the next few days.

Eels coach Brad Arthur is understood to be dirty at the possibility of Anderson shifting to Newcastle.

Anderson signed a four-year deal at Parramatta last year.

Asked had Anderson applied for the Knights position, Eels chief executive Scott Seward said:

“I’m not aware of him applying for the job.”

Pressed on whether it would cause angst if Anderson took the Newcastle job, Seward said:

“It’s hypothetical. I would deal with that if it came to fruition.”

Sources in Newcastle are adamant Anderson has shown interest in the job.

Anderson did not return calls yesterday but did issue a statement last night saying:

“Reports linking me to other NRL roles are pure speculation.

“I am very happy in my current role as Head of Football at the Eels and I have no plans to pursue roles elsewhere.

“We have a big job ahead of us and I intend to be here to see it through.”

Anderson has experienced success at NRL level, guiding Parramatta to the 2009 grand final and New Zealand to the 2002 decider.

His sides lost both games.

After being dumped by Parramatta in 2010 when long-serving club CEO Denis Fitzgerald lost power, Anderson became the NRL’s referee’s boss.

Newcastle officials met on Thursday to discuss the club’s coaching position. No formal interviews have yet been conducted.

It is understood though that Knights CEO Matt Gidley has conducted a few informal interviews with candidates.

Matterson is said to have support if in fact Newcastle decide to choose an outside coach.

Stone remains overall favourite.

It is understood the club discussed on Thursday whether to hire a Newcastle-bred coach or a coach from an outside club.

Newcastle hope to announce Bennett’s replacement late next week.

Saw it mentioned that Buderus might be under 20s coach.
Good move in my opinion.
We have some outstanding halves and hookers coming through in the next 3 years or so, and Buderus with Smith staying on as assistant coach for the forwards would be ideal.
 
Will Crawley leave? Where's he going to go? I think he's originally from the area and he's got no strong links to Bennett that I know of, he's got a great team that I'm sure he's really connected with and would want to continue their progress. Unless a club gives him back an NRL assistants role, I doubt he'd want to go to another NYC club when he's now got ours finally firing big time. He'll know he's got a good chance of some NYC finals/premiership bulletpoints on his resume here.
 
I posted few weeks back that Daniel Anderson would be high in the mix because of his past relationship with Matt Gidley. My mail is, it's Anderson's if he wants it. If Stone don't the top job he will walk. Daniel Anderson is chasing Brennan and David Fairleigh as his assistants.
