Bit disappointing, mayb more to story. Although stone has done well with what he had, I feel we will go back to the dark days, and he may get ordinary "costigan" type signings back to the club
 
Well we were going to struggle to sign good players either way, the focus was always going to be bringing up kids. Stone is probably one of the best guys we can get for that. And to be fair, Costigan was a real good signing, just for some reason he became crap when he joined the club.

I agree, if we get Stone it'll just feel like a backwards step to me. I don't think he has what it takes to take us to the top 4, I feel like we'll always be a team that's just hoping to scrape into the 8, at best, with Stone in charge. That being said, Brennan could fail when he gets a chance at first grade and we'll have dodged a bullet, but I was a lot more excited when I thought Garth was getting the job than I am now.

I will support whoever gets the job though, and if Stone gets it and proves me wrong I'll happily eat my words.
 
If Stone gets it he should take over immediately.
I'm keen to see what Stone can do after 3 years of seeing how Bennett does it with all the resources available.
It will be a very different off season for Stone and the players.
A very young coaching team should include Danny Buderus, Craig Smith and maybe Ben Cross.
The final make-up will be interesting, but it's definately out with the old men and in with the young men.

Costigan was a gun at the Dragons!

The fact we misused him was our fault.

He was dumb front rower who was great at tucking the ball under his arm and running Martin Lang style. Also was good for big hits as well.

Instead we tried to use him as a ball playing backrower and a hooker, and being he had trouble catching wasn't great lol!

If the knights want to be serious top 4 contenders then they must not sign stone.

If they want to always be fighting to scrape into the 8 then he is your man.

Seriously why are no high profile coaches like sheens or Neil Henry in the mix? Are we that much of a basket case. Really starting to get over this team as they are so frustrating.

Sheens is past it, the Tigers were woeful for the last few years, only good games were when Benji had a good one. Henry was in control of a team that constantly underperformed for years on end. I find it hard to see how you can rate them so highly. On the other hand you're quick to write off Stone, a man who got us to finish 2009 very well, have a dodgy 2010 & then make the finals again in 2011. No we weren't outstanding but there's nothing to say Stone hasn't become a better coach, only 2 & a bit years to judge on.

Lol both Sheens and Henry were/are much worse than Stone
 
If Stone does get it, you'd have to think he has more to prove than any other candidate. After getting the boot for Bennett and then getting no endorsement, he must have some fire in the ol' belly.

Henry never got the Cows in the top 4, despite having JT and plenty of other rep players. And Sheens? LOL.

There is a reason no other club is signing these guys.

How many finals series did Sheenius make at the Tiges?

And did you see the way Henry got trampled by the players at the Cows?

Both are way worse then Stone, people rant on about Stone being a soft touch, as if, aside from the Wicks scandal which wasn't club related we've had way more crap go down under Benny's watch.
 
I really hope the club moves in a new direction and moves Stone on. I can't help but feel Stone is part of the problem not the answer and even thou he took us to two finals series, we got there by skin of our teeth. The club needs some fresh ideas and Stones been here nearly a decade now, that's too long for any coach. Anderson would be a good choice as would Potter or Matterson.
 
Saying Henry and Sheens are high profile coaches just because they have coached for a long time is like saying Kearney is a high profile coach for coaching the Kiwis :lol:
 
How Henry didn't lead NQ to a premiership with the team they had is blooody beyond me. If he couldn't leaf a NQ team to victory, would hate yo see what would happen with us if he coached here.

I think everyone needs to face it that we're not going to get a high profile coach, I more then happy to see Stone step in but please Newcastle, just do it asap.

Also, with the signing high profile players, speaking for myself. I am more then happy to sign 'low profile' type players and see them flourish and become inlove with the club that gave them a chance. I'd rather a bunch of players that want to be here then a bunch of high profile players that are here for the money.
 
The super coach couldn't even handle us so I don't think it matters to much anymore who we get, but now garth is out I think stone is the man, who will want to put his heart & soul into the job
