I'm warming to the idea of Matterson. Sure Stone done ok in his previous stint some say better than ok however there was more reason to be happy with overachieving than there was to be optimistic about the future. For me if we're happy to be plodders coached by a real good bloke then Stone should have been named ages ago. If we want to give the Club an enema and introduce new ideas and a new face with a modern approach to the game then Matterson should start yesterday. He's got no favorites here and has always been competitive. He'll be hungry and demand the same from the players.

I didn't mind Matterson as a player - a good, honest, hardworking forward who reminded me of the Newcastle forwards of the day - but we don't need all the queensland influence.

We were always going to be a stop on the way to where Bennett wanted to go. Matterson surely would be wanting to establish himself in his own way.

That's true.

His record in Superleague wasn't exactly outstanding, either.

2005: Second in second division (promoted)
2006: 11 out of 12 (relegated)
2007: First in second division (promoted)
2008: 12 out of 12 (relegations no longer happening)
2009: 7 out of 14
2010: 9 out of 14
2011: 9 out of 14

Is anyone inspired by that?

Instant flop to be honest.

Not a great record. I'm not exactly inspired by Rick Stone's record either, though.

The thing with Super League though is if you're not coaching the top group of teams, you're not going to have much success, it's so lopsided. He did some good things over there though, he stuck solid with them after Catalans helped relegate them and brought them straight back into the comp and the following year took them one match shy of a grand final and he had success with them in the Challenge Cup plus he did very well with the USA side in the World Cup. I know that record doesn't look too crash hot but there definitely has to be other factors considered. And it's not like Stone has set the world on fire either so either way we are taking a gamble and just hope that whoever ends up with the job can step it up and get better results with our 2015 Knights than what their records show.

If we hadn't been through hell I would want stone hands down but I really just think we need a new start with a fresh new face to go forward, I can only see us going back to the old ways under stone, sure we made the 8 but we were never a real consistent team, bit like now. Is it a newy thing the boys get a win then are happy to back off for a week or so then get back into it ??
